New PS3 firmware update 3.42 - 9/6/10. - Blu-ray Forum

Watched The Killers BD about an hour ago. Shut my PS3 off and turned it on just now to watch 3:10 to Yuma and it tells me I must update.

It's prompting me to update but no idea what it's for or what it gimps this time. Sony's website does not provide any info and there is no story on gaming websites as of yet.

It is a small update and rumors are that it prevents the use of "unauthorized third-party applications" or in layman's terms, it stops the "jailbreaking" of the PS3 device. Thus, no homebrew apps or even being able to play back "back-up" discs.
