Default Receiver causing freezing issues?

Okay a problem has come up for me and I am assuming it is due to my Onkyo receiver. Lately when I play some Blu-ray's a few minutes into the movie the sound will all of a sudden drop out and the picture will start to freeze up and start playing like it is slowly being fast forwarded or skipping. This is not a disc or PS3 issue I am guessing because I have moved it upstairs to a regular HDTV that has no receiver and just uses the tv speakers and it doesn't have this issue. But when hooked up in my room to my projector and audio receiver it seems to happen randomly. For example this happened to Rudy and the Sixth Sense and the next day I tried Rudy and it seemed to work just fine then. Last night I watched Inglourious Basterds all the way through but then popped in Saving Private Ryan and it started doing the freezing thing a few minutes into the movie.

So what is causing this and how do I solve it?

Try shutting off the automatic sync option if you have one. I have noticed that with this option on it sometimes tries to catch up with picture. Of course if your lag is bad and you need it than that just plain sucks you'll probably need a new reciever that doesn't do that. I hope this helps. I've noticed that now that I have a plasma the lag is almost non existent. Not sure if it is technology related or just that it happens to sync better with my reciever.

Well I have something called the A/V sync and it was set at 28 msecs. I am not sure if that is the problem though because I have had the settings the same for quite a long time now and this recently just started happening out of nowhere. Was thinking it might be a bad HDMI cable or maybe just a sign of the receiver starting to give out. It would suck if the receiver is crapping out but I just wanna know what the problem is so I can fix it.

Nah, you can set the A/V Sync at 0 ms (See also #5 below). That's not your main culprit.

Try these:

1. Clean the laser lens of your BD player(s) with a lens cleaner disc (without abrasive brushes).
2. Clean the Blu-ray disc itself (each time you're using one, even if it looks clean).
3. Make sure your HDMI cables are in good working order and fully inserted into their respective jacks.
...Nothing's worse than a bad HDMI's connection or that cable's in bad condition.
* 4. Disable the "CEC" Control (Power Control & TV Control) feature in your receiver setup menu (from the "Hardware Setup" main menu section: HDMI).
5. Disable the Lip Sync feature.

6. Disable the xvYCC feature.

7. Keep in touch to let us know.
