Default Ipod car adapter

Can anyone reccomend a good ipod adapter for my truck? I purchased one a while ago for like $75... it would transmit the music via an FM radio station, but it always use to cut in and out so i returned it...

What can you guys reccomend? my budget is around $50-$75...

I bought a Griffin one a long time ago. It would do the same thing, cut in/out, all the time.
I finally said "forget it!" and I went to Best Buy and paid $150 for an iPod adapter that was installed into my car's stereo. I paid another $50 for them to install it.
Crazy thing was, about 2 weeks after getting that done to my car, I sold it and bought a truck that had an AUX input. $200 bones...down the drain.
I still use that adapter to charge my iPod while driving. It doesn't work on my iPhone, however :-(

I just upgraded to an iPhone adapter that uses an AUX port. Since my car doesn't have an AUX port, I bought a cassette tape adapter. Mine is a Belkin and works great. I think mine was about $80 for the car charger + tape adapter.

I'm sure if you shop on Amazon, you would find it cheaper. I needed something ASAP and bought mine directly from BB. I didn't save any money.

Really? $80 for a cassette adapter and a power plug? You can get a cigarette lighter car charger for $15 and a cassette adapter for probably $8 at most at Best Buy or wal-mart. You got hosed for ancient tech.

As for the question at hand, do you have a stock head unit or is it after market? Most after market brands; i.e. sony, kenwood, pioneer, etc, etc; offer adapters that plug into the head units disc changer plug which most have. For sure in your price range, and relatively easy to install if you know how to pull out a radio. Doing it yourself even gives you an option as to where you want to run your adapter plug also.

When I got my first iPod, I bought a Monster FM transmitter that also charged it. Paid around $85 for it at the Apple store. Pretty sure they still offer it or something similar. Just don't get the one that plugs into the headphone jack, those are usually lower quality from seeing friends experience. Seldomly had a problem with mine, just got phased out by an actual adapter that came with my 7" touchscreen/indash DVD player.

I had the Monster FM transmitter and loved it, a little pricey, but I enjoyed it anyways.

Well I have the Belkin TuneBase Direct with HandsFree. Got it for around $60. then added the cassette adapter for around $15. Add tax and I was right around $80.

I like it since it is on the flex arm and sits right near my gear shift. I realize the cassette deck adapter may be older tech, but it sounds a hell of a lot better than an FM transmitter. I had one for my old iPod and was changing channels every couple miles or while in downtown Washington, DC every couple blocks. Oh, and the handsfree speaker works fairly well. It pauses my music while I get a call and starts it back up when I hang up. It also has a USB port, so my wife can charge her iPhone while we are travelling. She hasn't loaded any music on hers yet since her iPod still works well enough for her.

Which one are you using? the Wireless 1000 or 800? and does it ever cut in and out?

I purchased a Griffin iTrip SmartScan a few weeks ago. It's another FM modulator, but it will scan to find open channels to use.

I live in Charlotte NC and the FM band is nearly full of stations. A few of the out-of-town stations are weak, and the "SmartScan" feature finds these "semi-open" channels. The transmitter is strong enough to play over top of these weak stations.

I used it on a trip to Wisconsin. Whenever I drove into an area where a station interfered with it, I just touched the scan button and it found and displayed a clear frequency. Tune the radio to that freq., and I had my tunes again.

Better yet, this unit powers and charges the iPod, so at the end of any drive, my iPod is fully charged for portable use. And I recently noticed that when I shut the car off (and leave the iPod in the car) this iTrip unit somehow senses this and places my iPod in "pause",and "un-pauses" it when I start the car again. I don't know how it does it, as its only connection to the car is to the power socket, but it works.

Unlike the unit in the link, mine only has one button (scan) and the LCD display (no 3-preset feature), but it's the same shape, size, etc. I got it at Wal-Mart for $59.

I'm very happy with it.

For a little more you can purchase a new head unit with an AUX-IN connection on the front. I just bought one for my jeep for this reason and I think I paid $125 total for the head unit and harness. I tried an FM tuner type and the sound quality was horrible.

I bought a peripheral brand adapter for my acura that will display the song and artist on the GPS and screen above the GPS as well as allow me to change the song playing with my steering wheel controls. In addition to that it will pause the ipod when I turn the car off. It will also pause the ipod when I turn the radio off, switch to radio or get a phone call.

I got my sister one on Overstock.com for Christmas a couple years ago. I only paid about $35 for it. It works great. I have heard it many times and never cuts out. It is one of the FM tuner types. I don't know what brand it is, but I thought it was a mistake buying it after seeing the higher priced brands. Now, she is going to give it back to me because she just bought a 16GB ipod touch and the old type chargers will not work in the newer models. I still have a 30GB 5th gen video ipod. So it will work fine for me.

I'm using a model from USA Spec. Works really well. Not all cars will be compatible though.

I'm hoping they come out with a iPhone Car Kit.

I'm using this

http://www.crutchfield.com/S-3BbK0D0...X-GT630UI.html

There's a AUX in but also an USB port that can be used to play and charge the ipod or iphone (or any other usb devices).

When plugged in the usb port you use the car controls to change songs/playlists/artists and all that. Costs more than an adapter but also is much less complicated and the sound is better. I end up having only one wire to do everything instead of one that goes to the cassette player and another to the charger. It's much simpler to use.

I have used tape deck adapters in the past, got one at WM for $5. Have tried the fm transmitters and atleast the one I have sucks. I am glad new cars are coming standered w/ not only aux ports but also usb. My '09 chevy has a aux port and we paid the extra $100 for the usb. The usb is well worth the extra change, but only plays the ipod or flash drives through the radio. I was using the zune via aux but would always for get to turn it off and it died quickly. w/ the usb and my nano it charges it and controls through the steering wheel buttons. It is really nice that cars are coming w/ this stuff now and doesn't have to be an aftermarket upgrade.

I never knew that about the newer car radios and USB ports on them. That's good to know when I'm looking at new cars.

So I got this back when it was not nearly this cheap. But I love it. It is better than others, and right now is a really good price. I drive a hybrid and it was really hard to find an adapter that wasn't going to get a lot of interference. It can be a little tedious to find a station, but once I did, it works quite well. I would buy it again if it ever broke.

I've searched for so many of these, I bought a cup holder mount and ran a aux and charger but hated having so many wires and a loss of a cup holder. So I found one in the mall kiosk made by I believe play n talk or iplay... It was the best thing for $50. It connects to the 12v and bulit in audio cable, w a goose neck and a holster that was at perfect reach, but then all of a sudden the charger would stop n go so I heard that vibration when you connect your iPod, but music kept going.. Me being OCD jk it bugged me. So mow I have a mount that I took apart and screwed into my center dash and have a aux and charger cable again.... It works just fine..
