I'm sure there is some website or thread somewhere that does this, but none of my internet searches or bluray.com searches have yielded much. Basically, I have a bunch of HD-DVDs and want to see if there are any significant differences between the quality (audio/visual) for certain titles. If there are, and the blu-ray is better, I'd consider double-dipping. Likewise, if there is a title I don't own yet, and there is a good HD-DVD counterpart that is much cheaper than the blu ray, then I'd consider getting the HD-DVD instead.
Anyone have a good place to guide me? |

I'm just curious, but do you still have beta-max?
Some technologies, I think people should just let it fade a away. But, to answer your question high def digest was a site I use to visit alot. They were into both the HD and blu-ray reviews. I haven't been there in awhile. |

Hmmm... to the OP: I think I understand what you mean.
However, as Blu-Ray has gained in popularity, tracking the HD-DVD releases has become more difficult. However, if you own specific HD-DVDs (I'm assuming from your post that you own at least several), why don't you make a thread on this forum with your HD-DVD titles and title the thread to make it clear that you want to compare HD-DVDs to Blu-Rays. Just my opinion. I think if such a forum or thread isn't available or isn't giving you the information you want, I would say to you to start that thread. Then, you could at least get some more dialogue going. I wouldn't be surprised if there weren't some members on the Blu-Ray forums who had/have HD-DVD titles or players. I wish you the best of luck! Now that you've brought it up, even though I don't own HD-DVD, I'd love to see a thread that had screenshots comparing the HD-DVD and Blu-Ray releases. Obviously, HD-DVD not being available right now makes that sound impractical, but it really isn't because things like that always excite me and people interested in technology and seeing how green the grass is ;-). Who knows, maybe a company missed the mark for a particular Blu-Ray movie transfer, but the HD-DVD transfer was done spectacularly well. Since HD-DVD has faded away, I now have no idea what the players were like; perhaps there was an excellent HD-DVD player that had superb video/audio quality. Haha... I may be getting carried away, but I don't think so. Please consider my suggestions. Sabastian |

Thanks for the good response, sabastianc7. It is hard for me to believe that with two formats that were considered relatively "on par" for a couple of years failed to produce any good discussions on some website somewhere about how the individual titles compare to one another. Especially considering the "nerdy joy" innate to many early adapters.
HAMP- I'll be sure to look into beta-max. ;-) And it looks like (as I'm just now searching the site, that it may give me the information I'm looking for. Tried searching 12 Monkeys and the blu-ray review informed me that the picture quality is on-par with the blu-ray release. Thank you! |
