Trying to calibrate your display to the likes of a movie is not the proper way to go. Each director chooses a different color pallette from the next. The Dark Knight and Avatar are both beautiful on blu, but they really are very different visual styles. What tends to happen when you try to set your HDTV to how you like a particular movie to look is that one movie looks fabulous while others look horrendous. I suppose you could adjust your settings for every movie if you want, but that would get very cumbersome after awhile.
If I may offer an alternative option, how about investing in a calibration disc? I personally prefer and recommend the Spears & Munsil disc found HERE. Calibrating your XBR is really the way to go. This way you will see the movies the way they were meant to be seen. In most cases, neon colors, sun burned actors, and crushed blacks are not the norm. ![]() ![]() Last edited by progers13; 09-16-2010 at 10:48 PM. |

I have this setting for blu rays. I just got use to it watching regular tv. By the way my room is pretty dark when I watch the tv.
Mode custom backlight 4(may want to go down to 2) picture 87 bright 44 color 52 hue g3 Temp warm 2(changed mine to 1) Sharp min nr off mpeg nr off motionflow high cine. auto1 or 2 depending on content advanced settings black cor. off adv. con en. off gamma 1 auto light off clear white off wide color standard white balance r gain -1 g gain 0 b gain -2 r bias 1 g bias 7 b bias -3 I changed the backlight to 2 cause, I wanted a nice theater look to it but not bright either. And the tempature to 1 cause 2, to ME seems to give the picture too much of a goldy tint to it. And 1 also leaves the colors accurate. I was afraid at first to play around, but found that some tinkering can make it a lot better. Hope this helps. Sick TV still. |
