Ireland has the second best sales in the world for Sony Playstation 2.

Sony today said it has sold 700,000 Playstation 2 consoles in Ireland since its launch in 2000.
The company also said that it has sold over five million units of software - especially games - in Ireland alone.


Ireland currently holds the distinction of having the second highest household Playstation penetration in the world, it said.

"The Playstation 2 console continues to sell strongly with the aid of social gaming titles such as the Singstar and Buzz ranges. The evolution of the social gaming phenomenon has encouraged consumers outside the traditional gaming sphere to get involved in the Playstation range and the computer entertainment industry in general," it said.

The Playstation 3 which launched in March of this year continues to boast strong sales figures worldwide with the announcement that Sony Computer Entertainment Ireland has shipped a total of almost 40,000 units since its release on the 23rd of March, Sony said
