Default DVD Audio ripper for mac?

Does anybody know of a free, easy to use DVD Audio ripper for Mac? I've got a couple concert DVD's I want to put on my iPod, but all of the software I've found only offers a very limited trial.

For this sort of thing, you could use Handbrake to rip the entire content initially, which will convert the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders from the DVD into singular .avi (or whatever) files. It's nice because it'll find the tracks/chapters automatically and divide and output them according to the authoring structure of the DVD itself. From there you put the .avi into MPEG Streamclip and extract the audio from the .avi.

Both Handbrake and MPEG Streamclip are free applications, and both are awesome for this applications like this.

HANDBRAKE IS THE S**T, SON! I love that program. That's program does wonders for all the beautiful things that are on my iPod.

Thanks for the help! I've got the disc ripped through Handbrake and I've gotten it into MpegStreamclip . . . is there a way to separate it into chapters and have each chapter be a track? I notice that in the progress bar, on the right hand side it says what chapter it's on, but I can't figure out how to separate it into tracks.

I must be doing something wrong with Handbrake. I ripped my Evanescense DVD so I can watch it through my AppleTV and it came out so pixelated that I just deleted the whole thing. Are there any good "tips/tricks/how to" sites that I can go to in order to assure I am selecting the correct settings?

I also did another movie and it used the commentary audio track even though I selected the 5.1 versus the 2.0 track (the only two available).

I think when you first rip from DVD to .avi in Handbrake, you should be able to see the chapters. These chapters are then created into individual .avi files. If there are multiple songs in a chapter and you want them separated, then yes you're right: you would need to do some further editing/ripping. I like Audacity for that. Also free (and awesome, and easy to use).

Maybe play with it a little bit. It takes some tweaking to get it how you want. I've had great success with it, though. Perhaps you can go into the output setting sidebar on the right side and select the "AppleTV" setting. This automatically selects the "Large file size" checkbox in the regular window. I would think this would be enough. The default setting when you first open Handbrake for the first time is something less than high-quality, so perhaps that is what you're experiencing.

Trying it now. A 30 minute clip only takes 11 minutes on my MBP.

Let me know how it goes. We could easily turn this into an "MBP Rules" thread so let's be careful!

I just remembered that you could technically use MPEG Streamclip for this as well, but it's not as intuitive for ripping and creating new tracks as Audacity is. There are trim and cut features at the bottom of the MPEG Streamclip player that allow these functions, similar to the QuickTime Pro. Oh yeah and there's another program that'll do it: QuickTime. Depending on the OS you have, you could do this with the built-in QuickTime application that comes with the OS. I believe the one that comes with 10.6 is the first one where you can do file editing of this nature — without buying QuickTime Pro separately, I mean.
