Default Dealing with Post-Steelbook Scratch Syndrome

How have you personally dealt with Steelbooks that get damaged and/or scratched to hell? Replacement? Coaster? Toss it? Weep in despair? Please, share your stories and experiences here.

I will start... I acquired The Dark Knight Steelbook from Best Buy today and when I arrived home, like the maniac that I am, I inspected it to be sure it wasn't scratched. It was pristine. I marveled at its beauty, until... I realized the FRIGGIN SPINE WAS LOOSE!

So, like any real manly man, I attempted to fix it. I put some super glue underneath the area that was sticking up and applied pressure for a while. Unfortunately, the apparatus that was used to apply pressure had left some pretty NASTY GOD DAMN SCRATCHES all over the area I was trying to fix.

It isn't loose anymore, but dammit, now it's scratched like a mofo in this one area and is somewhat of an eyesore. It's not a Shakespearean tragedy or anything but I've still been crying in my underwear for hours now, damning the Gods.

I'm sure a few of you must have some tales in regard to this topic. Anyone? Anyone? Try and have fun with it, even though it's a truly devastating topic.

this is one of the reason i have reduced buying steelbooks drastically. Now i only buy fav movies.

once while taking out minority report steelbook from my shelf, slipped out of my hand and a small dent occured . i felt so frustrated, abused myself and then in fit of anger thru the steelbook out!!
it was all fine in 5mins..bought back the steelbook and sold it for half the price.
hahaha!!

I bought a couple of Resident evil steels in a Walmart dump bin. I examined them as best as I could in the store. Went to the car came home opened them and a dent and a major scratch was on one. I was so mad!!!! It was under the back cardboard part where you can't see. I jumped in the car and returned it. But before I left with the new copy I made sure to check it out before leaving. Steelbooks in dump bins are always a bad idea.

Scratched and damaged steelbooks received, returned to online shops, received replacement

Manly man and crying into underwear seems like a contradiction to me

I've usually sent mine straight back for a replacement which is what happened when they came dented or anything from the retailer but thankfully they're using good packaging these days or have had a miracle.

I think my actions more than anything have had a few scratches occur on some of them. I think people would still firmly consider them in mint condition and the only one that really bothers me now is Akira. Theres a dent the size literally of the pen tip on a ballpoint pen and because it's silver in colour, it shows up like a brown stain on white underpants

Ever since that and the scratches that unintentionally occur, i've taken every single effort to make sure that i keep them just as good as they were when i opened them from the factory shrink wrap. I bought 100 protective plastic sleeves to help with any scratching issue as well as a external zipholder for the disks. I take them out of the open steelbooks and then seal the steelbooks up and put them away now safely tooked away in a box.

I'm now more a collector/investor in them. I love the artwork of them more than anything and whenever possible down the road will buy the amaray releases nice and cheaply. I'm not hoping the steelbooks appreciate to millions but hopefully a tidy someday it's worth passing along to my children for them to use the money from should they need to. Otherwise, i usually just buy a double copy like some on here. 1 for the collection, and 1 to keep. Alas, with the absolute ridiculous amounts of releases coming out, it's becoming unsustainable to keep at it with some releases, so i'm gonna have to wait it out.

For now though, i've got so many catalogue releases, these are staying sealed for the most part. only a 1/4 of the titles now seem to be opened and the rest hidden away from the world
