As far as I know - no coverage in the US. If it was being covered, it wouild have definitely been in HD.
The recent Winter Olympics had been amazing to watch. |

The games are being broadcasted in the USA via TV Asia. Not live events just a few hours of highlights in the evening hours from 8:00pm to 11:00pm. Been watching the highlights since the games started.

The picture quality of the HD coverage, of the opening ceremony and the events over the last few days is top notch. Unfortunately the same cannot be said about the audio. To begin with, the audio is not in 5.1 channels and in fact is only mono I think. To amke matters worse, the audio feed on DD HD (Doodarshan's HD channel) is atrocious, with intermittent crackling of sound, it is bad enough to cause damage to one's speakers.
+1 for a Blu-ray release of the opening ceremony. I am a 100% sure that a home video release on BD and DVD of the opening ceremony, maybe packaged together with the closing ceremony would sell very well. Ofcourse the key is to release this within the next couple of weeks as people's memory and interest will fade very quickly. Atleast for now there is ahuge interest, since a lot of people had not watched the original broadcast but are now keen to do so after all the praise it has earned. The commentators on the Doordarshan feed were repetitive and annoying (as they kept talking during the spectacles, when they should've just let the viewers watch in peace), and the program packaging and advertisements throughout the opening ceremony were low quality as well. Although India is hosting this event, the BBC feed was superior to the DD feed in almost every way. In other words, the little things that bothered me on Doordarshan's coverage were eliminated by BBC. One of the BBC commentators was an Indian, so it wasn't as if they didn't know what they were talking about with regards to Indian culture, and they were precise, concise, and not repetitive. It seems as though the CBC version was too pro-Canada, and they weren't as immersed into the Indian cultural elements. As for the HD, it was not top-notch quality, if compared to other international events like the Olympics and FIFA. That said, it is still a huge advancement in terms of picture quality for Indian television.

I absolutely hate Canadian coverage of sporting events. The Olympics was the most annoying thing to watch. Our coverage was SOOOOO cocky, ambitious, and pretty much just for ourselves. It's always like that. I realize it was Vancouver 2010, but it was just so ridiculous how much emphasis was given to Canadian teams and 'how great we are'. So it doesn't surprise me that we're too pro-us. What does surprise me is why that happens... I always thought we were one of the most diverse places around, so therefore we SHOULD be representing a lot of different cultures. :|

At some point, I am sure a city in India will host the Olympic games. I look forward to that as well. If I can, I will try to attend in person. |
