The inimitable Frank Henenlotter is back with a new documentary, and needs your help! Alongside producers Anthony Sneed and Mike Hunchback, Frank's been working on The Trial of Mike Diana (2017), a look at the horrifying miscarriage of justice that allowed a then-23-year-old Diana to be arrested, prosecuted and convicted -- for simply drawing a comic book! The case is examined through a thorough mix of news footage and modern interviews, with experts and artists like Neil Gaiman and Stephen Bissette to those who were there, including both the defending and prosecuting attorneys, protesters, and Mike Diana himself. I had a chance to talk with Henenlotter & Hunchback a little while back about their film, and it sounds absolutely killer -- not only challenging the age-old art vs. obscenity arguments, but the outlandish attack on free speech itself. And, knowing this crew, it'll be entertaining as hell.
The project is currently seeking some additional finishing funds from fans, and they're offering a wide array of awards -- everything from original art and exclusive comics to limited VHS copies and signed prints. You can even have your own ugly mug drawn by Mike Diana himself! So click the link, and donate away. There's just over a week left -- be sure to tell your friends while there's still time! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...of-mike-diana/ ![]() Last edited by bruce holecheck; 11-11-2016 at 01:52 PM. |

Indiewire currently has THE TRIAL OF MIKE DIANA in competition for their Project of the Week -- even if you're not able to donate (or even interested), it'd be pretty cool if you could swing by and cast a vote. It's really an incredible story and one that needs to be told -- plus any new film from Frank Henenlotter (BASKET CASE, FRANKENHOOKER) is reason for celebration!
http://www.indiewire.com/2016/11/vot...re-1201745148/ If it wins, the exposure will definitely help present it to an audience that wouldn't necessarily be aware of it otherwise! |
