Default Connect PS3 to internet through PC

I'm not sure if anyone here can help but I'm trying to connect my ps3 to the internet through my desktop. See, at the apartment complex where I'm living there is free wi-fi but I've found it only works for desktops/laptops. When contacting the ISP they've told me the network setup can't handle game consoles for some reason.

So I got to thinking, is there anyway I can connect my ps3 to the internet through my desktop?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I don't see why your free wifi will not work for your PS3??

If its protetected via WEP etc, as long as you know the router name and password you should be able to log on with ANYTHING.

If there is no protection, you should be able to get on easily.

What happens when you tell your PS3 to search for the wifi signal?

There's no protection such as WEP. My guess to why it can't connect is that when I connect to the internet on my desktop through firefox or IE i get redirected to the apartment's webpage where I must check a box (agree to terms of service) before I can surf the web. I think the network is trying to do the same thing to the ps3 when I do a test connection if that makes any sense.

Sometimes I can get an IP address when I try to establish a connection with my ps3 but it always fails making the internet connection.

Very easy to do...that is how i actually connect my ps3 online. What you need to do is make sure your desktop is connected to the internet. Go to your comuter and configure the network settings to share the internet connection with any device connected to it. You will need an ethernet cable in order to do this. On your ps3, do the connection settings test and voila you are set to go. It might sound a bit complicated but i can tell u that it's not that hard. The basic thing is getting your desktop or laptop to share the internet connection it has. I don't use a router ever since i figured out this method.

This is what I did just before I went to my college classes except I got it to work with a regular ethernet cable. But the download speed seems slow probably because our network isn't the fastest to begin with.

Download Speed: 1 Mbps
Upload Speed: approx. 500 kbps

Is that fast enough to do online play?

That probably is fast enough, but you might get lag/delay having to go through your pc, then to the internet. Better than nothing though.

Yeah I don't do much online gaming. I was just getting sick and tired of having no internet access for my ps3 to sync trophies and download demos.

Should I keep my firewall on when I'm signed on to my ps3 or turn it off? I think I can still surf the web on my computer while I'm downloading stuff on my ps3 so I think I should leave it on so I don't leave my computer unprotected.

Lucky you! My internet connection is at 40kb yet i still get to play online without any difficulty. The only time i hve experienced lag is when i play fifa 11. Although it is not that common especially when the host has a faster connection. Dedicsted servers like killzone 2 are a beauty as i have never noticed any lagging while playing . Have fun online, it gives your games a whole new life, probably justifies the high cost of games.
