![]() P.S. I do apologize if this question has already been answered before, and any thread redirection would be of help. Thanks! |

Well, I mean a dedicated Blu-ray player... Not so much interested in the PS3.

I heard that is not yet confirmed... If it is, I am in the dark but as far as set-top players, we have:

The Denons aren't and won't be BD Live (2.0). They will be BonusView (1.1/Full Profile) compliant.
I think your best bet short term is watching for the Panasonic BD50 or a PS3. I'm a standalone guy too but I own a PS3 for the 2nd room and frankly, the unit rocks. |

Hopefully we'll see some new Blu-ray players at this year's show, and some larger screens in the CES-announced XBR6 line. I'm looking forward to it! |

2. Post a question to bluray.com's Sony SCE insider. 3. The question was 2.0 functionality. Not sure but doubt the spec requires 2.0 players to be able to firmware download over the network interface. My own suspicions -high cost given the very few who actually have Ethernet by their HD TVs. |

Very true, but With a local WiFi network tou don't need an ethernet port. That's how we handle PSS updates, why wouldn't that not work with standalones? Many people with cable or FiOS internet have a LAN. |

Sony could have done it but was a business decision not to. It's not just the cost of the hardware either. It's developing a user interface and a TCP/IP stack and a transfer protocol, maybe require a 2nd smaller CPU to manage the code, more RAM, the server services on their site and then the time to do all that takes resources off something else. Wasn't saying I agree with it but I am a very early adopter and I don't use my Ethernet interface. |
