Jigsaw’ Star to Topline ‘Rabid’, Remake of David Cronenberg’s Horror Classic!!



Casting is officially underway on Rabid, a remake of the 1977 David Cronenberg film of the same name.

Bloody Disgusting learned this morning that Jigsaw star Laura Vandervoort will lead the cast of the remake, which is to be helmed by the “Twisted Twins” aka, the Soska Sisters (American Mary, Dead Hooker In a Trunk).

Drawing influence from the original movie, the remake will follow Rose, a young woman who, after an accident leaves her scarred beyond recognition, undergoes a radical untested stem-cell treatment. While turning Rose into the belle of the ball, the experimental transformation comes at a price.

Rabid is written by Jen Soska, Sylvia Soska and John Serge.

From Clay Epstein’s Film Mode Entertainment, Rabid has already been sold to 101 FILMS in the UK, Shout! Studios in the US and A71 in Canada.

Michael Walker, Paul Lalonde and John Vidette of Back 40 Pictures are producing.

If there's no penis coming out of a sphincter under a vampiric pornstar's armpit, than this movie shouldn't even attempt remaking the Cronenberg classic.

I'm confused why the Soska Sisters seem held in high regard with a lot of horror fans when they really haven't made anything to write home about. American Mary had a few interesting moments in it, but was still kinda meh as a whole. The rest of their stuff is just plain bad and really cheap and amateur looking. Like a notch below what get released from Asylum.

Picked up the UK blu ray Monday and really enjoyed this. It's stylish, well acted and the make up is terrific. Overall a very well put together remake. I found this far more engaging than Pet Sematary.

Well, I like Vadervoort, so there's. And it does look fairly gripping even if cheap. But if I can find somewhere to see it other than buying it, I'd check it out.

I have the same concerns as well. Especially after Tim Lucas, a film writer that I respect a lot felt compelled to write a long essay on them as well. I'm like it's still early and I just don't see the wow factor from them as of yet. I hope Rabid is good but that trailer is very generic.
