Smile Hello Blu-ray.com!

Hello Blu-Ray.com!

This is my very first post over here so please let me state a few things I have on my mind.

After more than three years with 1620 posts I am ready and relieved to finally put the AVSforum behind me (although I will still attend a few sub-forum areas like my beloved Digital High-end projectors, the Subwoofer/Speaker/Amp and above all the Ultra High-end HT gear forums).

First of all let me say how nice it is to see a few familiar and much valued names around here. My Best Regards to Rob Tomlin, Supermans, benes, Maxpower1987, Dave Mack, patrick99, darinp2, Penton-Man and of course paidgeek. (among many others I sure should have mentioned here...)

Looks more and more like a AVS refugee camp to me.

I would also like to express my utmost gratitude and respect for all the support and great work paidgeek and Sony Pictures have delighted us with.

Paidgeek, thank you very much for listening to some of my suggestions (especially the forced 24p mode for the PS3, 20bit/24bit DTHD tracks with Dialog Normalization "turned off") and acting in our best interest.

One thing though - I sure didn't come here to hold hands with fellow Blu-Ray/AV enthusiasts and sing Kumbaya all day long in the light of Blu-Ray's greatness.

Being supportive and intrigued by Blu-Ray's capabilities and potential shouldn't make us closed-minded -

NO - not everything is good or even acceptable with Blu-Ray as a format (yet).

YES - there are some things HD-DVD is (still) better at and we all can and should learn our lessons here!

Let us strive to make Blu-Ray live up to it's potential and let's make it the format WE want it to be. What better opportunity can there be than having such supportive insider's as paidgeek listening to us.

Let us make sure that just for once the technologically more advanced and much more ambitious format ends up on top against the bean counter's dream of a super (cost-)efficient, "good enough" approach that is HD-DVD!

For the sake of our passion.

Hmm...I wasn't mentioned...but what the heck.
WELCOME!

I certainly agree with that. It's easy to just become a club of back-patters, and none of us will benefit from such.

To be critical (but fair) of our beloved format, will only make it better.

Yeah it's almost like home here, except without the HDDUD trolls.

Kinda think I should/would have traded a thousand posts or so I did over there, here.

Man I was never a member of the AVM$ forum but I have went over there and checked out there site and its just horrible how they treat Blu-Ray fans like second grade citizens. Anyways, welcome to the club.

Welcome TheLion. I have always appreciated your comments and feedback at AVS. It seems like more and more folks are leaving that site and are tired of the same drivel at AVS. I really feel that it is the same 10 or so HD DVD fanatics over there there that have really polluted the site. The mods just do not seem to have the balls to give these folks infractions or hold them accountable for their actions.

The AVS forum seems unwieldy and unfriendly. Blu-ray.com is much better.

If one format is clearly superior, there is nothing wrong with saying so, adopting and supporting it over the alternative format.

Tired of people "schooling" you in how VC-1 at 15Mb/s with DD+ is as good as AVC at 25Mb/s with Lossless PCM?

It's probably better if everyone stopped using this "HD-DUD" thing - I mean I'm guilty of using it in the past but I think it's time to grow up and be more mature about things maybe? There's a reason this forum is becoming a refuge, right? We don't wanna turn into another AVS now, do we?

Hey Lion,

About time you made it here!

I have just dropped posting at AVS, I got into trouble for my rant at Amir about his $200/disc claim, work was less than impressed and asked that I stop posting there for my own sake!

Hey there, TheLion!

There's still a few of us who hang out at AVS. I just dropped in here not too long ago myself, though mostly I participate in the gaming area rather than belabor stuff here in the movie and general discussion sections.

I refuse to let the HD DVD zealots drive me off of AVS, and I don't think other members here who hold "dual citizenship" should, either. There's still some great discussions and information to be had there, if you Ignore the right people and learn how to read past the talking points on both sides.

This place is a breath of fresh air compared to AVS if you're a Blu-ray supporter though, for certain.

Default Welcome

I just wanted to say welcome. I have read some of you post at AVS and enjoyed. I myself have read much of what is posted here in the last year, but I've rarely posted because I have little to say and much to learn in the realm of home theater (and I have learned much). Therefore it is always great to have another experienced voice on the forums.
