Default Sony Bravia issue

I have a 46" EX500 Bravia LCD television I purchased back in Late October.

I am noticing light and dark banding going horizontally across the screen. Could this be a connection error or could this be my television.

I also noticed was looks like a drop shadow on the sides of the screen. It's very noticeable when I boot up my Xbox 360.

What would you suggest I do? Is the tv not working properly or could it be my display settings?

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like a defect. First try to reset it back to the defaults. Go to the home menu and use Initial Setup. It will set everything back to the way it was shipped from the factory. If it defaults to Vivid setting, you may want to change that to Normal or Cinema. The vivid setting boosts the colors to wow the buyer, but it's not natural. Also try different sources, cable, antenna, BD player, in addition to your Xbox.

You can also try to move it to a different room. You may have some kind of Electromagnetic Interference. Make sure you don't have any devices on the same branch circuit that will create interference, like a fan-forced space heater. Surge protectors usually have filters for this, but the surge protector may be bad or doesn't have EMI filtering.

If it does this on all sources and in all locations, then it's time to take it in for repairs. Bummer that it happened so soon, but at least it's under warranty. Don't wait.

Thanks. I notice it on all my sources. BD, dvd, 360. I'll try your suggestion. If not I'll try and exchange it for a new one.

Thanks

Well I just exchanged the t.v. last night and found out it was $100 less now so I got the difference back and was able to get my son some more Christmas gifts. The new tv does NOT have the banding which makes me happy. There was a weird splotch on the screen, but that seems to be gone this morning.

Ah great news! Actually your thread about the Samsung vs. Sony actually inspired me to get the KDL-46EX500. Just ordered it on Sunday as my Christmas gift! Can't wait until the 25th to open it...but first it must get delivered to my house first!

It was either this 47' Vizio, the Samsung or the Sony and I got the Sony!
