Default Scalps (Amazon Exclusive / Limited Edition of 2,000 copies)

Does anybody that's seen this think it's worth a blind buy? I watched the trailer and it seemed like it might fall into the "so bad, it's good" category.

I think the thing about this being an Amazon exclusive will supercede all talk about the quality of the film . But, yes, the film is a turd. Not 'so bad it's good' IMO - just plain bad.

I ordered one. Brings back memories of the double feat VHS with the Slayer. Had to get it. Now if only a Blu of the Slayer would be released. But it's def a low budget affair.

The fact they didn't even proofread their own product description makes me think the product is probably terrible too, but what do I know.

I have Retromedia's two other limited Blu-ray releases, and they look quite nice! Both Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers and Biohazard truly exceeded my expectations in the PQ department.

With their DVDs, they tended to release things that had already been released on those "50 HORROR CLASSICS" or "100 SCI-FI THRILLERS" sets, and they'd always have by far the best looking version of them (they'd usually be in the right aspect ratio and at a real bitrate, for example), but I don't think they were ever doing any restorations or anything. But yeah, it doesn't surprise me that much that they'd still be above average. Their DVD output suggested they were at least trying, unlike most people releasing those kinds of films with tons of gray-market releases.

I watched this back around Halloween and I can't even remember anything about the movie. so it's safe to say I didn't think it was very good.

Definitely. I think Fred Olen Ray goes the extra mile with his own movies too. He has quite an affinity for them, and it comes across in his commentary. If you're a fan of Scalps, I'd say it's a pretty safe bet quality wise.

It seems a bit odd that this will be in stock on Sunday, January 24th.

I never really like Scalps but The Slayer is one of my favourites and one which I would love to see on BD especially as it has never really received an official release on any digital format discounting the fullframe DVD from Vipco in the UK.

Yeah that DVD was like watching the VHS. It's gonna be weird to finally see that one correctly. It's always been so dark. Hope someone puts that out sometime soon. The Slayer gets much love. Well here's to getting half the double feature.

I think I'm going to wait until 88 Films releases their Blu-ray. Ultimately, I think it might wind up being cheaper to do so, and 88 Films has a better track record with PQ and, especially AQ. Isn't Retromedia's Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers lossy?

Makes me think of Code Red Bill's product descriptions and his posts here (I used to assume English must be his second language), but his blu-rays are pretty excellent.

Man, every time I see someone mention Scalps on Blu-ray, I keep hoping the spaghetti western got licensed. To my knowledge that's never even had a DVD here. I'd like to see it but at this point I think I'll pass on importing the DVD.

Neither has mine, yet still shows it's due to arrive tomorrow.

Edit: spoke too soon. It now shows up as "Preparing for Shipment"
