Default the format war is .... fun!

.. several things, but to me it is mostly ... fun.

that's right, i'm enjoying it. it has created loads of intelligent and passionate home-theater related talk. it's created a competitive, rooting-for-your-favorite-team while hating-the-rival atmosphere.

How many of us would still regularly visit BD.com without the format war?,

Not to mention that competition has meant lower prices. That's fun, too.

I agree with you in a way. It causes a lot of anxiety with some people though too. I think it's almost like watching a sports event and cheering on your favorite team. We all have money on the game too, so it makes it even more interesting.

Default It can be fun

I do agree, it can be fun. What makes it even more fun is that I sell this stuff in a retail store. Everyone is curios to find out what Blu-ray really is, what the differences between both formats are, etc... It's fun for me because it forces me to learn stuff about both formats in order to try and help people out in an unbiased way (...what's funny is I have never sold an HD-DVD player).

It can also be annoying, specially for those that have chosen a format and have already spent money on it. Then there are things that happen that make us wish we had stayed neutral or chosen the other format. Regardless, I'll remain true Blu till the end.

Go Blu!!!

I totally agree! I love watching people make up facts and make crazy statements like "I think Transformers will decide the war." I love to login from time to time just to see the action.

Can't deny it has its amusing points. I'll be glad when it is over though so I don't have to worry about maybe having backed the wrong horse.

I agree. It's like a three year long (hopefully not longer) sporting event.

I loved it when we scored that 65 yard touchdown pass in June (Blockbuster), and all those new recruits (starz, studio canal, etc...) have all helped out. It really sucked when their defensive back (Para*****) intercepted that pass and ran it four yards for a touchdown, but we're still way ahead when I look at the scoreboard! And we're in the second half now.

We all need BluRay jerseys so we can support our team.
Go Blu! Go Blu!

skubrick,

I like your analogy. Reminds us all that the NFL starts tonight. For a moment, enjoy something other than movies

Well, the lowering of prices certainly doesn't have me complaining.

But we need to get the sales numbers higher for BD players. They have improved since the $500 Sony BDP-S300 was released, but we might still have some catch up to do.

300 in HD-DVD barely ranked the sales list among lesser top selling blu-rays. We have beaten the tail end of HD-DVD into the ground. Our title sales are fantastic. If 300 could not help them, Transformers will not fair much better.

But I want this war over, and I am ready to forgive Paramount. What can I say, they do have a collection of movies I desire. Gonna be a long 18 months.

Sports analogies aside, I am enjoying supporting the winning team and look forward to the demise of HD-DVD. We all need to show continued support over this crucial holiday season so we can ensure another victory for Blu.

I like forward to looking at Blu-Ray.com throughout the day to see if there is any good news for BD. I love the war but I wish it would already end soon (Q1 2008 but I doubt it). Heres hoping that Blu-Ray will be having a kick @$$ 4th quarter this year!!
