Cube (Vincenzo Natali) - Dutch edition

Anyone got dutch Cube and can comment on picture quality? The movie was made on a low budget so i would be surprised to see a shining transfer but one can hope.

I would say it's very good quality. Very film like PQ imo. Looked amazing on 92" screen. Starting from the opening scene (close-up of an eye) transfer shows remarkable detail. Of course one must remember that this was a low budget production and not every scene is razor sharp.

Specs:
-Region ABC
-1080p 24.000 fps (note! This is not 23.976 fps as most BDs)
-VC-1 (bitrate, everything between 10 and 35 Mbps)
-English dts HD MA 16-bit
-Dutch subtitles can be turnt off.
-No extras and no menu! Not even pop-up menu.
-Warning. Three trailers (576i) are auto played before movie and also two distributor and age certificate intros. Latter ones are HD 50 Hz. Movie starts automatically after trailer and intros. At least trailers can be passed by hitting skip forward button.

I also have the BDinfo scan. Maybe I copy-paste those here if I remember .

This is very good looking BD. Highly recommended.

Region ABC but contains 50 Hz material at the beginning. Intros and trailers at the beginning are 50 Hz (pal). Movie itself is 24.000 Hz - not 23.976 Hz as usual. No extras, no menu, not even pop-up menu.

I compared a screenshot from the HDTV version that has aired earlier in 720p and i saw no visible difference at all so either the HDTV is very good or the blu-ray is weak. They had the same grain just a little different framing.

No word on the japanese edition?

Which HDTV version? The one I saw (probably US mpeg2) and compared is clearly inferior to this BD. There are quite many shots with high amount of detail (like close shot of an eye in the beginning and the fine texture and the patterns of the room walls) but also other scenes with less detail. Some shots have film grain which I don't thing typical HDTV (not atleast mpeg2) can reproduce without artifacts. Overall I think this was very "film like" experience on a 92" screen. There are of course many scenes which seem "out of focus" or soft but one have to remember that this was low budget production.

So is the japanese blu-ray out? Heard good things about the NL version so i might buy it since it´s also cheap if the japanese isn´t like twice as good. Maybe they will have BD50 and higher bitrate but i´m not sure that will help a low budget movie like cube so much. And the japanese will probably be like 3x pricier

If it has PAL and 50 Hz video before the main feature, it will not play on a Region A PS3 from America. One of the more shortsighted decisions from Sony. Lots of other American BD players can handle it.

Monroville. As I already mentioned in my previous posts this title has optional (removable) Dutch subtitles and 50 Hz content (pal 576i trailers and 1080i50Hz HD distributor logos) before the menu/main feature.

Just ordered Cube from Mediadis. It's the same company as Free Record Shop, but with an english interface. Much easier to order from there if your not fluent in Dutch.

According to posts in here http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1264943 it will play on the US PS3 if you have the latest firmware.
