Default Toshiba Refutes Sony's Claims of Blu-ray Stand-Alone Player Dominance

Hot off the press....

Toshiba Refutes Sony's Claims of Blu-ray Stand-Alone Player Dominance

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh..._Dominance/943

I dont think Sony ever said that they have overall exceeded HDDVD players with dedicated BD player sales, they just said that they are starting to exceed based on August numbers, and from over the past 12 weeks...not the pas 17 months...geeez lol!

C'mon Sony !!! Fight back with your own response!!! TOSHIBA WILL GET POWNED!!!

LOL, Toshiba still keeps going back to July.

"but but but....back in July we had more. In Europe we have 70% when we ignore the #1 selling Blu-ray player. We have a better attach ratio when we add those players we ignored before. Plus we pay our number wizards more than Sony and we give them free TI-82 calcs."

Well, another desprate move from the HD-DVD camp! This time a rushed press release saying they were top in July!!

Who cares? The PS3 has been on top for the entire year¬!

I think that Toshiba know it is in trouble. Their low prices on HD DUD players are driving the well known manufacturers away.

So the dedicated player tide turned in August.

It will be interesting to see how player sales and title sales play out, now that Paramount has "taken the money."

Disney, Fox, Warner tripling BD output, ..........

I am SOOOO sick of Universal and Paramount and Toshiba ignoring the Fact that Playstation 3's do exist and they are capable of playing Blu Ray Movies. Hell I have watched more movies than played games on it. Stand alone back in July Sony had just released the BDP300 and it hadn't even hit alot of Shelves, Since then and with the price reduction of the ps3 60g many more people have bought Stand Alone and Ps3. HATE HDDUD

Ha ha ha...I love the big blu-ray add right in the middle. Hey, when you can't beat them, lie. In the end everyone will hate them for it. 5 million+ blu-ray players sold in about a year(including the PS3), isn't that a bigger market penitration than when dvd was at the same time frame???

I am glad tha acer is dual format now, it will give everyone a chance to not get HD-DVD in there acer computer. It is better to give the customer a choice and choose a winner in this war than it is to have "exclusive" stuff.

this just in VCR is back in the game. According to NPD (july 1994) VCR has sold more standalone units than HD DVD or Blu-ray. Seriously Tosh JULY! thanks for confirming blu-ray standalone dominance.

Toshiba had a 55% market share year to date in high definition stand alone player sales followed by all Blu-ray companies at a combined 42%; the final 3 percent is held by dual format players.
If they had a 55% market share in July, and they have an attach rate 7 times that of Blu-Ray , how can blu-ray be outselling hd-dvd by 2-1? I'm no math wiz, but that seems IMPOSSIBLE!!!

PS3 doesn't count even though 1 out of every 4 PS3 owners buy a bd, but how do they even know that????

What?! You want to bring facts, math, and logic into the argument?!

You note they did NOT refute what the BDA said. They merely re-interated year-to-date share.

I trust this Friday they will do the same when the Nielsen disc ratings are released? Oh, no? Then it will be the instantaneous numbers that are important?

I work at Best Buy, maybe 1 in 10 people who buy PS3s even give a crap about Blurays. Half of them don't even have and HDTV. Personally I'd buy a PS3 for Blu-ray because it's a good deal (if it were under $450 dollars).

Default What does Toshiba know?...

What does Toshiba know? They support an inferior product period. And they want to sell it to the masses? Only ignorant people will invest into HD-DVD when there is a much superior format out there called Blu-ray.

It's quite simple. They are counting PS3s when looking at attach rates. And since there are more players (if you include the PS3) there are more discs out there. But if you look at people who buy HD vs BD, its 4 to 0.7. Very simple.
