The Alliance version is superior, which is unusual for them. From my superior international thread:
From Dusk Til Dawn U.S. - DNR with incorrect color timing, OAR CA - No DNR with correct color timing, open matte to 1.78:1 |

Yeah, I guess I misunderstood you, when you called the Canadian barebones I was thinking that you meant the U.S. release was not, but I guess they are both barebones.

I actually preferred the EB release. While the contrast on the EB was cranked up a bit high, the colors on the Alliance release were too washed out. Both have their flaws and could be better.
I'm going to get the Japanese release from WB next month and see how that stacks up. I wouldn't be surprised if that ended up being the one to get. |

![]() I've seen the Echo Bridge disc and it actually looks quite good to me, compression is a bit weak but no significant DNR problems that I can spot. The audio seems to have absolutely nothing in the LFE channel however, which is more of a problem. The UK release may be a better choice, I hear its region free. |

If you don't mind me asking...what are you watching them on? You don't have pictures of your home theater in your home theater gallery. I want to buy one of these copies at some point.

If you want Full Tilt Boogie, get the Quadruple feature. The encode for the first film on it is the same as the encode on the double feature with the first two films, 14.63 GB. The encode on the individual release by Echo Bridge is 19.7 GB |

US version has the same filter that was applied to both the US Memento (10th anniversary) and Pulp Fiction BDs which oversaturates the colors and has way too high of contrast. The color timing on the US release is definitely wrong, but just how correct it is on the Canadian disc, I don't know—but for what it's worth, it looks like the VHS and DVD copies I've seen. Neither of them looks particularly great. I bought the Canadian one a year or two before the US one came out, so I'll stick to that. It's just kind of an ugly, brown movie, and I think it's safe to say that the Canadian BD is a faithful transfer. Last edited by Kriztoffer Swank; 01-01-2012 at 09:43 AM. |
