Default Steven Spielberg's Miniseries "Taken" (2002)?

"Taken spans five decades and four generations, centering on three families: the Keys, Crawfords, and Clarkes. World War II veteran Russell Keys is plagued by nightmares of his abduction by aliens during the war; the Roswell incident transforms Owen Crawford from ambitious Air Force captain to evil shadow government conspirator; the unhappily married Sally Clarke is impregnated by an alien visitor. As the decades go by, the heirs of each are affected by the machinations of the aliens, culminating with the birth of Allie Keys, who is the final product of the aliens' experimentation and holds the key to their future."

Original audio was Dolby Digital, 877 minutes in 10 chapters with an aspect ration of 1.78:1.

I own the DVDs... I don't usually like UFO stories (never could get into Close Encounters, for example)... but this was a well done character-driven mini-series.

Warner Bros. might have the rights to this one (due to having the home video rights for pre-2005 DreamWorks fare) so a release shouldn't be too far off if that is the case.

This seriously needs a Bluray release. Watching the DVDs on my UHD TV is horrible, even though my TV is doing a good job at upscaling.

Been a few more years, I recorded these on my Digital 8 from the TV when this series originally aired. I'm not sure what cameras were used or if a remaster could get more detail into an HD release, but man it would be nice. My guess as to why that hasn't happened is this was a made for TV series, I'm guessing the budgeting resulted in not the best cameras and even worse FX quality, and while on DVD we don't see it, would likely stand out in Blu-Ray. DVD is a huge step to BluRay HD(I think about 611% more pixels once you consider the letter boxing for effective res of 720x405), while BluRay HD to UHD is only about 300% more pixels.

I'm curious how the nVidia RTX super resolution video scaler would handle those videos going to the UHD TV, I think I would just need to put them on a local "web based" media server so I can play them in a web browser for the nVidia tool to do its thing. I guess I need to find my Digital 8 player again.

The series was shot on 35mm film, but I'm not sure how it was finished. If it was finished in SD I can see the hesitation to redo a ~15 hour miniseries. However, this hasn't even been released on DVD since the original release.

DreamWorks Television was folded into Amblin Television of which Universal Pictures is one of the Partners. So it's pretty safe to assume UPHE still has this one, but as to why this hasn't been re-released is anyones guess at the moment.

This was the first TV series where I was in it to watch it from beginning to end (remember at that time most series where not telling a continuous story, but episodical stories). Couldn't miss a single episode; even worse - I also watched all replays, which in Germany was once again at 1am after the premiere at 20:15, and if I remember correctly some time in the morning on the weekend. It was such an incredible show, and ever so often I remember it, look up if there's any release on Blu-ray from any country, and then I am frustrated and consider getting the DVD.

Today was such a day, and after googling "why hasn't steven spielbergs taken not been released on blu ray" I landed... here

I won't loose hope, it has to be picked up on Blu-ray. Has to... maybe we should write Steven Spielberg directly, through his fan mail address (does he have something like that?). Hm....
