Default Can't get proper picture/aspect ratio on 4:3 SD television

I need your help!

I got a new Blu-Ray player, the one offered for $60 through Disney's promotion. I already have my PS3 hooked up to my HDTV, so this player will be for my secondary TV, which for now is temporarily a standard definition TV (4:3).

Even though I set the player's settings to output to a 4:3 television, everything I see on it is squished, whether it's a movie, or even just the player's menus (You know, like when the full widescreen picture is squished into a square area). No matter what I try, I can't get it to properly display the picture on my television. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong??
