Default Netflix on PS3?

Don't know if this is the right section to post this, move it if it needs to be moved. I just wanted to see how people like Netflix on their PS3? Thinking about signing up. Thanks for the info. John

I enjoy it alot, especially for watching TV shows. I cut off my cable a few months after getting it. Its really worth the money. I do 1 dvd or blu out at a time for 13/month.

Excellent. Don't need a disc now. You can search all Netflix titles plus it shows content recommended for you based on what you like. You may want to create another account just to watch movies because now you will see the pop ups in the upper right hand corner during movies which you didn't with the disc and it can get distracting. You can, of course, turn off notifications too. And I don't know how they do it but the quality is excellent and there are no interruptions in the streaming. Compared to YouTube, its rocket science compared to the stone age. Lots of new movies and TV shows weekly, and an increasing amount of 720p HD offerings.

I LOVE IT! The HD stuff looks really good and some of them even have 5.1 surround sound now and it sounds great. I'm not getting any interruptions, buffering, or dropouts. There seems to be a nice selection of movies and tv shows as well. I'm using a free trial month at the moment but if I keep enjoying it as much as I have thus far I will be signing up.

I was on the fence also and once I tried the free trail I never looked back. I've had it for 8 months now and absolutely love it.

I had it when it first came out, like 10 years ago. You used to be able to get 5 movies out at a time for very cheap. Then they raised the rate and lowered the number of movies so I dropped off for awhile. Can back and it seems to get better and better. Don't forget you will have access on your computer too including streaming of Starz.

Definitely a feature I will make my mother use once I get my father a PS3 so she can stop relying on mail service discs like she has for years.

How does netflix work? Does it download the movie to my PS3? I don't want to be downloading movies on my PS3. I keep it for just upgrades and add ons.

I do the 1 out at a time (DVD not Blu) and it's only like 8 or 9 bucks a month. Is it 4 or 5 bucks more for Blurays?

No you stream it over your internet connection. Preferably you should have a broadband connection.

Steaming. And I don't know how they do it. If you watch the movie The Smartest Guys In The Room about Enron, its like was one of the services they lied about perfecting, streaming movies over the Internet. You can do it with your PC too, have been able to for awhile now.

i give it an 8. minus 1 point for poor selection of good movies in HD, it's mostly very low budget crap but this will improve over time. minus another point for the way in which you have to log out of the netflix app to get back to the PS3 XMB. i personally don't like having to press the PS button to exit and i had to create a new button on my remote just for this. i have had netflix now for about 5 years and this has been the 2nd best upgrade they have done (bluray)

it's like $2 more per month for Blu Rays Groo. So, even at $11 a month, its totally worth it (providing you watch more than 3 Blus a month, as most rental places charge $3-$5 for Blu rentals, if not more)

I've had the service since it came to the PS3 & it's the best $13 a month I spend(besides Satellite radio)! And now that it's discless is another benefit!! The recent deal with NBC made a lot of shows available online like Battlestar Galactica, etc. It's a good deal & I see it getting better as time goes on as well.

How much do you add back that you can run Netflix streaming on close to 100 devices? You didn't download the software that just came out last week yet did you? You no longer have to log out to access the XMB and now since its a PS3 application vs a disc game the SD is upres'd to 1080p and looks much better then the 480p of the disc, its much closer to HD then any upres'd DVD player I have seen, including the PS3.

Netflix PS3 App Ditches Disc, Adds HD and Surround Sound

PlayStation 3 just leapfrogged Xbox 360 and snagged the best Netflix experience on a videogame console yet.

The new Netflix application for PS3, rolling out for download Monday, will enable Netflix subscribers with PS3s to watch movies and TV without a disc. Some titles will even stream in 1080i HD and 5.1 digital surround sound.

Netflix’s “Watch Instantly” streaming-video feature has been available for PS3 since late last year, but it required a Blu-ray disc in order to access the service. Now, by running Watch Instantly as a native PS3 app on the console, users can ditch the disc altogether. Netflix also has a new user interface, optimized for the PS3 controller’s analog joysticks.

In the new UI, search especially seems smartly designed for the PS3 controller, using an alphabetical grid and intelligent auto-complete to minimize the pain of text entry, as seen in this still:

I even like the way the controller buttons control common text-entry commands in context — like Space, Delete and Enter. There are keyboards available for PS3, but being able to use the controller well is a real asset.

Netflix has not only continued to bring its streaming service to seemingly every device with a screen, but to make that service better. Still, among consoles, the announced PS3 app stands out: Xbox users don’t have 1080i or surround sound, and Wii users have only now added search to their service, which still requires an “Instant Streaming” disc.

Adding media services has become part of the continued rivalry between Xbox and PS3, along with new motion-capture interaction devices like PlayStation’s Move controller and Xbox’s Kinect.

Besides videogame consoles, Netflix can now stream to personal computers on Windows and Mac; TiVo, HD, Roku, Logitech and Apple TV boxes; Windows Phone 7 and all iOS devices; and a wide array of net-connected TVs and Blu-Ray players, including those using Google TV.

You can't beat $11 a month for 1 Blu-Ray at-a-time rental. My movies arrive no later than 2 days after I order them, and some months I've been able to watch 5-6 Blu-Rays, so it beats Blockbuster, RedBox, or anything else in terms of costs per Blu-Ray disc.

Netflix on the PS3 is AWESOME now that it doesn't require a disc. The menus are not hard to navigate at all, but the only thing that is a flaw to me is the need for more HD content, but I understand that they are pushing that issue as we speak.

I've had Netflix since May this year, and I have significantly cut back on buying Blu-Ray movies because of it, however I will still buy the MUST HAVE Blu-Rays.

If you don't have Netflix, you need to get it ASAP

Have you noticed how SD content looks HD now? I was watching a couple of movies and thought there was a mistake that they were not listed as SD, but its the new software. There is also a closed caption option on some movies.

Mine's not so much choppy but it is blurry. On my PS3 and 360. I've got a DSL connection. Could that be my problem?
