Default Ok, avs has officially lost all credibility.

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=904677

^^^ this thread here, they are all rooting for the success of Vizio,
because they feel it will lead to mass adoption of HD, therefore HDDVD will thrive because people can get cheap ass HDTV's and CHeap ass HDDVD players.

Is this the same AVS from two years ago where I was embaressed to say I owned something Sony?

Unhappy Yeah, I wonder too!

I'd like to see the actual demographics of people who are the most active posters over there.

From all the talk about how great HD DVD is, I would guess that everyone there is either a teenager, a broke college student or someone who still lives off their parents. They all consider the 360 add-on an acceptable home theater component, or overlook the reported problems of the Toshiba players (at least the early ones).

Of course, I'm exaggerating a bit, but HD for home theater is an early adopter technology. All other products (audio and video) of new tech in the past were the fare of usually the well-heeled enthusiasts who were very well-informed. Or people who felt it was worth it to shell out extra to have the very best.

Now all we hear from them are demands for $199 players and HD movie prices that are equal to DVD to get J6P to adopt. Folks, HD is extra high quality sound and picture, and you should expect to pay more for it.

AVMS is starting to sound like a bunch of uneducated, cheapskate, low-tech junkies.

I miss it when AVS was known for and accused of being filled with snobby elitists.

At least elitists know their @#$$es from a hole in the wall vs. something like that.

Disgraceful, but consistent with the BS we've seen from HD-DVD supporters for the last two years.

So everyone go out and buy your Vizios and your $199 Chinese POS HD-DVD players.

Whoopie.

I blame Wal-Mart. It's ruined the high-end electronics culture of the US by introducing high tech gadgets to trailer trash who can't even tie their own shoes without help.

Durabrand HDTV's whats wrong with that? got one hooked to my Coby 5.1 receiver, YORX speakers, with a Venturer HDDVD player and all connected up with the High grade Recoton cables. Big lots has great value on hometheater!

You guys are snobs!

Anyone who thinks the 360 add-on is acceptable for a home theater environment is nuts. I use it on my computer to watch bonus features to save bulb life on my projector, but once I was done doing my review of the XBOX Elite for UAV, the add-on drive was permanently removed from my viewing room to my office.

I use the 360 add on as a secondary unit in my master bedroom. It looks pretty good on my 46" 1080p LCD @1080i, Frankly I don't see a signifigant difference in PQ between it and my HD-A1 on my 50" SXRD. Maybe my viewing size isn't large enough to see a noticeable difference.

However:

The sound is lacking with no lossless support, DTS out is acceptable...but it aint no TrueHD/LPCM. + the 360 is a lil noisy. I'd still rather it than a Venturer.

I'll give the 360 one thing, it's the fastest HDDVD player out there.

I say for the average person already owning a 360, it aint a bad deal at $180+ 6 flicks. If you want them Transformers and Uni Titles.

I mean no offense, because I know you're neutral, but saying that you'd rather have a 360 other than a Venturer is kind of like saying you'd rather have someone lay your television flat on the floor and drop trow right in the middle of it.

Sometimes those who are the fastest out of the gate are the first to pull a muscle and fall.

To quote a rather well known movie.

I used to be active on AVS but I've not been posting for quite a while.

Well, I think AVS started going downhill when HDTV started to gain traction in the consumer market.

Like BT and JTK said, it moved from a high-end forum to where it is today while, unfortunately, still working on a pretense that it is still talking about high-end gear.

That last bit is what I take issue with. I have no problems with a forum with budget consumers, we're all budget consumers in some ways at some time. The problem is, increasingly AVS is becoming a forum of budget consumers who trash talk and proclaim that they're high-end when they pick up a Sony ES or Pioneer Elite or worse.

There are still a couple of nice high-end discussion forums around though, fortunately.

AVS is a bunch of whiney children.
Even the mods are "under-developed"...

I go there mainly to have a laugh. LOL!

The group of online HD DVD supporters at AVSForum and other sites aren't helping our cause any, but this kind of crap often posted here sure won't help our cause either. If Wal-Mart sells inexpensive Chinese made next generation players, I sure hope Blu-ray is the format chosen exclusively.

Everybody here seems to forget how poorly Blu-ray is doing in the market. The only positive is that HD DVD is doing far worse. This is sort of like having two rookies batting for the shortstop position on a big league team. One is batting .125 and fielding poorly and the other is batting .250 and fielding poorly. Neither one can make the team.
