I had seen this movie many, many years ago when I was younger but watched it again a couple of years back with my wife before we visited Cambodia. It is a good primer if you ever care to visit Cambodia.
We did all the touristy things to do like visit Siem Reap, but the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and Choeung Ek we're two of the most psychologically crippling places I've ever been to. I am seldomly left speechless and after visiting these places i was at a complete loss for words for a significant amount of time. These places may not meet everyone's idea of a vacation but I wouldn't trade the experiences we had there for a million carriebian cruises or trips to some all inclusive resorts. I would highly recommend visiting if the urge ever strikes. All that being said... I look forward to this release and will likely import rather than wait for a domestic release. If they do release it I hope they tidy it up. They released a DVD that they boasted was "digitally restored" and it looked bloody awful. Print damage everywhere. Complete con to claim it had been restored. Real shame as it was a great film and as David Puttnam pointed out the film that should have won the "best oscar" over "Chariots of Fire" which he also produced.

Studio Canal must be crazy if they think anyone is going to pay £29.99 for this (thats the price on Zavvi). Think I will be getting the US version.

Only think missing from the US BD is the BBC Omnibus documentary which was on the old UK DVD and also I believe the Australian BD. |
