Your Thoughts on import Steelbooks

I was just wondering what you guys think. I live in the USA, and have only bought steelbooks in stores. There are a few really nice looking steelbooks I've seen on ebay but aren't USA, most are Canada. For the people like me living in the USA, do you guys buy out of country steelbooks? One perfect example for me is "Gangs Of New York". I'd much rather have the steelbook than the regular BD in stores. Will they all deffinetly work in my Blu-ray player? I've never bought anything out of country so have no idea how the discs works and if the case looks different than US cases. If some of you guys can explain, I'd really appreciate it.
