![]() ![]() Welcome to the Official Radiance Films thread. Fran Simeoni, the former director of content for Arrow Video, has ventured out on his own to create a new label called Radiance Films. Fran states it'll be "focused on BD releases of more favourites and discoveries, with a slightly different bent to Arrow". New titles will officially release starting January 2023. I will do my best to keep this post updated, but also make sure to check the latest posts for updates as well. ![]() Update: Radiance will have a Disc Replacement progra for The Tale of Oiwa's Ghost. Those that ordered directly from Radiance will automatically get a replacement. If you ordered elsewhere, please contact them at info@radiancefilms.co.uk with proof of purchase, and your initials on the disc. Full details here: [Show spoiler] Links:
A-Z List: [Show spoiler] By Spine No.: [Show spoiler] 2025 Teaser - Below is a GIF I created of a 2025 teaser image provided by Radiance, with the addition of titles announced so far. Good luck deciphering! Very cool to see another label start up from someone who has been synonymous with the quality of Arrow for the past decade of collecting. Excited to see what kind of titles he has in store and who else he will use to freelance for him. This could be a great new label akin to Indicator and Signal One, filling some gaps in an already very healthy market. Fran Simeoni has decent film taste so I'm sure he'll have a few things up his sleeve.

Thanks MifuneFan, I'll popping in here as soon as I can. In the mean time I'd love to hear what kinds of things people would like to see?
I'd love to focus on deeper cuts, I've seen loads of amazing films but a lot were challenged for various reasons or just felt too be too off piste, or too commercially challenged. Now I feel I can take more risks I might consider them again... Fran/Radiance |

I'd personally love to see some more Guy Maddin films in HD, and perhaps some animated stuff (Len Lye, Norman McLaren, that kind of thing). 50's/60's Japanese cinema is some of the most exciting cinema I've ever experienced, would love more of that (and perhaps even Korean, Taiwanese, HK stuff from that period too). Off-kilter Westerns, American or otherwise, also generally thrill me (Arrow's The Hired Hand being an example). Some cult stuff from Alex Cox or Monte Hellman would be fun. And perhaps national cinema that is often bypassed even by labels like Second Run (not for lack of trying though, I'm sure). And would love to see some great restorations ported over here with new extras (things like Arbelos' restorations of Fehérlófia, Gangs of Wasseypur, The Juniper Tree, Private Property come to mind). Will you be doing booklets and fancy packaging or keeping things relatively simple? Quote:
Curious to see what you're going for in terms of visual identity for this label, as well as the practical format of releases. Obviously you've had a first hand view of what does and doesn't work and excited to see what you'll decide after going 'carte blanche'! |

It would be good to put out more recent films as lots of festival titles aren’t necessarily acquired, or are only made available on VOD/streaming. Though there’s plenty of films from the past century that have only been released on VHS or a crummy DVD with no meaningful home release. I would also say there are plenty of national cinemas that are overlooked on physical media. I would be curious how much is studio titles or if the focus is more on independent titles.

I know little about rights and licensing, so here are a few things that might be feasible and that I’d certainly buy day and date.
Diva, the 1981 film that started the Cinema Du Look. Conspicuously absent on BD in the UK. Les Amants du Pont Neuf, the Leos Carax masterpiece. Sir Henry at Rawlinson End, a very funny and surreal comedy from Vivian Stanshall. Regular Lovers, a terrific three-hour film set during the May ‘68 events in Paris. Patrice Leconte’s Le Parfum D’Yvonne. Will you be selling online directly like Arrow, Eureka etc? |

Just wanted to echo that, I loved the Academy line so it'd be great for another label to pick up the mantle of classic Hollywood and world cinema.

Please GOD, there are enough labels doing cult/pulp/giallo/grindhouse. The Academy line was all too brief.. a spiritual successor is most welcome.

Shinji Aoyama's Eureka Lisandro Alonso's Jauja The Zellner Bros' Kid-Thing Alonso Ruizpalacios' Museo and A Cop Movie (and Güeros, if it's available) Wisit Sasanatieng's Tears of the Black Tiger David Mamet's Homicide Radu Jude's Aferim! Joachim Trier's Reprise and Oslo, August 31st Peter Weir's The Last Wave and The Cars That Ate Paris Quentin Dupieux's Mandibles Joanna Hogg's Unrelated Diao Yianan's Black Coal, Thin Ice John Magary's The Mend Takeshi Kitano's Brother Tran Anh Hung's The Scent of Green Papaya Mia Hansen-Løve's Eden Brian De Palma's Passion Werner Herzog's My Son, My Son, What Have Ye Done Seijun Suzuki's Pistol Opera and Princess Raccoon WCP restorations of Jia Zhang-ke's Pickpocket, Kim Ki-young's The Housemaid, Govindan Aravindan's Kummatty, Djibril Diop Mambety's Touki Bouki (with Contras' City and Badou Boy as extras...), Edward Yang's Taipei Story, Ritwik Ghatak's A River Called Titas, Buñuel's Los Olvidados...basically any of their restorations of course. Anything from Todd Solondz... Note: well aware some of these are going to be tied up with rightsholders (a few were with StudioCanal, last I checked, for example). Just thought I'd splurge some ideas. Agree with some of the above suggestions, especially Lav Diaz... |
