Okay, the movies are a little bit goofy and camp and not at all like the show - but Its still fun enough. I like the bright, colorful Dalek designs (which is why I am probably the only person on the planet to like the New Dalek Paradigm from 11's first season), as an adaption it handles the task of taking a 7 part story and compressing it to 90 minutes pretty well and more Peter Cushing on my shelf is always good!

And yes - you do not have to know anything about the series to watch these. Completely self contained, no connective tissue to the show, no prior knowledge needed. Jump right on in!

I've never had much of any interest in Dr. Who, but I've been curious about this film and its sequel ever since learning about them. I love Peter Cushing and it's my understanding these movies share no continuity with the show, instead being standalone stories, so you could still watch them even if you know nothing about the show.

Yeah, these are totally self contained and independent of the series (aside from the high level premise of grandfatherly old man with a magic box bigger on the inside than the outside having an adventure in space and time fighting killer robots), so no foreknowledge required.

Mind you, the movie adapted the second story of the whole series, so there wasn't a lot of continuity to get wrapped up in by that point. All we knew by that point was the Doctor and Susan were aliens and they were related. They jettisoned the alien part, changed the name from the Doctor to Dr. Who, made Susan 10 instead of 19 (or 1,900 in Gallifrey years - whatever the age Carol Anne Ford was in 1963) and off they went.

Whenever a new Peter Cushing film is announced on Blu-ray, I'm a happy man. I've never seen this movie, and have been wanting to for quite some time.

Excellent news! As others have already said, hopefully "... 2150 A.D." will follow.

I picked up the two UK Peter Cushing films some time ago. They are fantastically fun! If the Kino disc provides superior AV I will have to pick it up.

Lot of people don't seem to realize, but this film was actually the VERY FIRST exposure to Doctor Who anywhere in the USA!

Which is one of the reasons why the US trailer should be included too:

At this point... certainly better than the show lol. I would like to have seen Cushing's portrayal of the Doctor in adventurous without the Daleks but day one purchase for me

Kino Lorber responded to a comment on the Facebook post for this film saying the second film would be announced tomorrow!

I have the UK steelbooks, so unless these films will come with fresh transfers and/or additional restoration, I don't think I need to double-dip. Love that they're getting a US BD release though!

I wonder if Dalekmania will be the original uncut version or the oddly truncated version from the later DVD releases?

I know that the BBC probably couldn't have afforded him, but I would have loved to see him in the show proper as the Doctor. Ah well, what could have been!
