Default HDDVD is getting press

Is it just me or does it seem that all the news about the actual effort to win this war going to HDDVD. It seems everytime I start looking around I here about another deal that the DUD camp has in the works. I understand that BLU's victory is inevitable but why doesn't anyone give up the skinny on the backstage deals BLU has cooking. Other than new players and movies launching, I know more about the content DUD is aquiring than I do about what the BLU camp is doing to take the next step. I'm dying to here some massive news, or some mediocre news that hints at HUGE news. I guess I'm tired of reading all about what DUD is doing to try and rally.
FOREVER BLU!!!

Honestly?

It's because the BDA is playing it like professionals.

HDDVD is like the attention starved child that is screaming 'me me me!!' at the mall. The kicker is... everyone is staring at the quiet kid who is staring confidently ahead wondering 'what's that kid thinking... I want a kid that's that quiet and cool.'

The problem with the current FUD campaigning of HDDVD is that after a bit, it begins to show through for what it really is to even the most oblivious consumers. As an unwritten rule in marketing, we assume that approximately 20% of the people out there will never 'get it'. That is who HDDVD will have left.

Quietly working in the background, making deals and such, is the wise way to approach it. Frankly, as a consumer, I'm not so sure I would trust a company that makes a big ordeal out of it's 'backdoor deals'. Never saw Sony discuss the target deal did you? Just a release from Target stating what it is... Purely informative and AFTER THE FACT.

With all the FUD HDDVD has put out there now, it's making it easier and easier for them to fall flat on their face when they do get called out. People are seeing it with this TL51 thing already... Why were they dissin' the BD50 all the time and saying 30gbs was enough if they felt they had to produce this TL51 to put movies on? When the real data comes out and directly contradicts HDDVD FUD, people notice (hence the uproar over the recent figures of BD standalones beating HDDVD standalones now).

Exactly.

The HD DVD camp is upping the ante, they will run 30 sec spots on Sunday Night Football throughout the year. That is J6P's domain, time for BDA to step it up soon!

I could not have said it better. I do see that HD DVD is in the news, read some of it today and posted here for others to see, but of course someone beat me to it. Anyways, I have confidence in Blu-ray. I would like to see a big announcement. Why the WB commitment to both and then an article in the LA Times that WB is in meetings with HD DVD to go with them. Wish this was all over...

Keep in mind that now is NOT the time I would be advertising...in about 2 months is when advertising should start in time for Black Friday and the beginning of the US Christmas shopping season.

No one is listening now, they are enjoying the remainder of their summer.

After Thanksgiving, everyone will be thinking about the Christmas season.

Which last night watching the game, was vastly unimpressive (Same "I am xxx person, and HD-DVD is so cool, and oh it plays my DVD's too). Not to mention the commercial came AFTER the game was over.

That commercial time for football is massively expensive, and that type of spotting does go to the highest bidder. I nearly laughed at the placement of it, considering it's when most people were changing the channel to something else.

You advertise when it matters, Q4 and specifically Christmas.

I think we give to much press to the other format as it is without having to discuss their format every day.

With the kind of resources the combined BDA supposedly has? No, you advertise all the time, as often as you can, in as many venues as you can.

I find this odd as well, I think it has alot to do with Microsoft though (OK it is Microsoft). Simple fact is even third party games for PS3 and 360 all show up on TV as a 360 commercial and I have yet to see a single PS3 add on TV. I could care less though as I threw my chips in with Blu-ray as soon as I did the research on both formats while they were developing them. I got nothing against the 360 (despite 11 of mine breaking, ok I have a slight grudge ) but HD-DVD needs to die and fast, it's good from a price stand point but it's just not as future proof as Blu-ray. If there is anything I have learned from working with technology it's that the cheaper tech will get you in the door and last you half as long before you need to upgrade again.
