Silicon Knights are developing the game. They are responsible for Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem on the GameCube and Too Human on the 360. The games story is being penned by X-Men Legacy writer, Mike Carey.
In a press release earlier today Activision has announced that along with Marvel comics they will be releasing an all-new original video game set in the X-Men universe, called X-Men Destiny.
In X-Men: Destiny gamers will take on the role of a new mutant recruit in a branching storyline with deep elements of choice, giving players ultimate control over their destiny. The game’s story is being created by X-Men: Legacy writer Mike Carey and is being developed by Silicon Knights, the studio behind Too Human, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain and Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem.
For those fans that are lucky enough to attend the New York Comic Con, during the Marvel Games Panel on Saturday, October 9th, at 10:45 a.m. in room 1A06 Carey will be revealing a little bit more about the game’s original story.
In addition, now until October 10th Comic Con attendees will also be treated to a sneak peak of the game in Activision booth, #1833.
With New York Comic-Con officially upon us, the announcements have begun. Among the first is that Activision is teaming with Silicon Knights for a brand new X-Men game called X-Men: Destiny. No platforms and no genres were announced in Activision's statement about the title.
"The all-new original video game casts players as new mutant recruits in a rich, branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny," the vague release said.
As was pretty common, we spent our formative junior high years trying in vain to manifest mutagenic powers. We may be just ordinary flatscans, but we can still live out our dreams thanks to Activision’s upcoming X-Men: Destiny.
At this year’s New York Comic Con, Activision announced that it was working with Silicon Knights (Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem, and Too Human) on a new X-Men title for home consoles. Destiny will put players into the role of a new mutant who joins the X-Men. Reportedly the game will feature a branching storyline that players will be able to steer through their in game choices.
In the tradition of all recent Marvel games, Destiny will be penned by a we’ll known comic writer, in this case X-Men: Legacy writer Mike Carey. Attendees of New York Comic-Con, which is going on now through October 10, can get a sneak peek of the game in Activision's booth, #1833.
We don’t know if this will be similar to Raven’s past X-Men: Legends titles, or if it will be a new kind of gameplay experience, but we look forward to finally getting a chance to manifest our mutant abilities.
Last year, Silicon Knights (Too Human and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem) announced that it was working on X-Men Destiny for Activision. Last night some of the game's first screens leaked onto the Internet. They don't leave us with the best first impression of the game.
French site Gamekyo posted these screens for X-Men Destiny. They show off Gambit, Quicksilver, and what looks like one of Silicon Knight’s player-created characters. Sadly, the game looks like its still too early in development, and probably wasn’t ready to be shown. We’re still eager to hear about how the game plays, and will keep you posted as more information becomes available.

I saw this earlier today and hoping good things for this new game.
One thing though, I believe "Too Human" was exclusive to the 360 console only and never announced or released on the PS3.
Should be worth noting that Too Human wasn't very good (and not because it was a 360 exclusive). Terrible controls, vapid gameplay, and the worst unskippable death animation ever.
I sincerely suggest keeping expectations low on this title unless Silicon Knights shows off something worth getting excited for.
But why do you think Activision will port this new X-MEN game to the PS3 vs. ground up development?
Well I don't know if Activision will port the game themselves but Activision does like money especially in more recent years even if their ports are pretty much half-assed. But if Silicon Knights ports it then it's hard to say how turn out. Plus Silicon Knights would be new to PS3 and plus don't really see Activision being a company who would focus their developing for PS3.
Do we know what type of game this is, i.e. like an X-Men Legends beat-em-up/RPG game or a action game like they ones the made to coincide with the films?

Silicon Knights is still working on X-Men Destiny for Activision. The game’s newest trailer came out a few days ago, and it looks oddly familiar…kind of like the last trailer for the game.
When the game was first announced, Silicon Knights talked about how it would feature “branching storyline that features a deep element of choice and gives players ultimate control of their destiny.” As Kotaku points out, this sounds a bit like Mass Effect. We wouldn’t have a problem with that.
Looks like a little in game footage near the end. Hope to get some more details on this soon.
It's a 3rd person brawler. Screenshots make it look like Infamous or Prototype.
There's 3 main characters to choose from which are now officially apart of X-men canon.
You can pick and choose the mutant powers you wish to develop.
The game gives you moral choices which effect alliances and story paths.
Computer controlled allies fight with you. No word on coop.
You have a mutant meter that builds during combat. When it's full you can unleash a powerful attack.
Silicon is using a new proprietary game engine and honestly the games graphics aren't impressive.
I personally want to mention that the one main character revealed Adrian Luca is a checklist of bad character design. He looks awful.

Hmm, doesn't bode well from the sound of things. I will wait to see some gameplay footage before fully abandoning ship though.

Game looks just as fugly as Too Human did. It would be nice if they improved the look before its finished, but I'm not holding my breath.
Frankly, nothing in those screenshots even says "Marvel" to me. I had to do a double take to even recognize Gambit, he's so poorly represented; were it not for the charged playing card, I'd not have realized it was him at all.
if gameplay is somewhat like X-men legends (4 characters you can switch on the fly, and interactions of powers when they have the same target) I'm interested
