Question Blu-ray region question

I was in the store today looking at the back of some movies and I was looking for some that play in all regions (not that it matters for me) but I noticed most never had any rating or any that I could find, Like the movie I have in front of me now Minority Report it shows no rating.. So does that mean if I see no region code that means it's good for all?

No, that's not a good assumption. It appears Paramount has decided to dropped the BD region code symbol for whatever reason. According to this site, Minority Report is region locked. In another example, this site lists Rango as region free but the cover doesn't have a region code symbol either.

No, that's not necessarily true. You're best served looking at sites likes http://bluray.liesinc.net to make sure. In your case, the US Minority Report disc is Region Locked to "A".

That's odd.. I wonder what the reason would be for that.. it's not like it cost anymore to put it on the back of the package..

It's anyone's guess why Paramount has done this. I've noticed both Warner and Universal have omitted the region code symbols from their releases too; at least their most reach ones. Then again, I believe all Warner and Universal (including international releases) releases are region free.

I just wanted to add that the list of Region A locked titles is in my signature. Not sure if anyone has done a list for B and C.

Paramount, Warner, and Universal were dual HD format supporters and as such, did not region lock their Blu-ray Disc releases (as HD DVD did not support region codes of any kind).

Warner has released 99.9% region free Blu-rays with a tiny, miniscule amount that are region coded. They have no plans to ever use region codes on Blu-rays and will only do so in rare cases.

Universal has also released 99% region free Blu-rays with a tiny, miniscule amount that are region coded. Their international partner Optimum has both region free and region B releases.

Paramount has released primarily region free Blu-rays but with the debut of the Sapphire Series, they embraced region coding when they don't have worldwide distribution rights. A few UK & Australian releases are 1080i50hz.

Because of past practice, they never needed to have the region code printed on the package. However, Universal and Warner do print the region code on locked titles wheras Paramount has "forgotten" to do this.

Good Advice. I normally just check this site to see what the region is listed as. Since I can access this site via my phone, I can just check while I am shopping. I would recommend checking to make sure before you buy.

According to your location, you are in the USA, so why do you need a disc that plays in all regions?

Hah I was on this site while I was at best buy trying to decide between 2 movies as as far as the regions I'm looking for movies that are not here as far as blu-ray goes like the movie I'm looking for is the crimson rivers, from what someone said here I would have better luck getting the Taiwanese version of the movie
