i found the first paragraph of his entry especially interesting...
(i neglected to include the rest because he goes on to discuss everything we already know about upcoming hi-def disc and dvd releases). but if you want to read it - here's the link: http://digitalbits.com/#mytwocents Bill Hunt: Afternoon, folks! We're back as expected today, and I'll tell you, was it EVER nice to get away from all this format war silliness for a week or so. Sarah and I spent time with family, and not once did I bother to check e-mail or even read the trades. And I'm glad of it, because there's certainly been plenty of PR spin and consumer FUD being spread this week out of CEDIA. Both the Blu-ray and HD-DVD camps are working overtime, determined to kick this format war into high gear for the holidays. And having spent the morning catching up with phone calls and talking to our industry sources... if you guys even knew HALF of what was going on behind the scenes this week, you'd be picking your jaws up off the floor. You'd better believe it when we say that the visible public and media relations portion of this format skirmish is only a small part of the full story. It's getting ugly out there, folks. Anyway, we're going to save our commentary and analysis of this week's high-def news for tomorrow or Monday.... Last edited by ReduxInflux; 09-07-2007 at 01:48 AM. |

Lawsuits are "ugly". What else qualifies as ugly?

I'm disturbed that Fox would not release all 3 versions of Live Free or Die Hard on one Blu-Ray. All they have to do is seamless branching. I guess studios are unsure at this time if Blu-Ray is going to win the fight so why bother. I think it sucks that consumers have to buy movies 2 or 3 times to get the ultimate extreme super duper director cut... Fox movies are too high anyway and I'm going to be very select in which ones I purchase. I'm sure there is no snowballs chance in hell the Die Hard Trilogy will be released as separate blu-ray movies. I'm going to wait until they are just like MIP. I only want Die Hard the other 3 movies are not good enough to me to warrant buying on blu-ray.
I'm disturbed that MGM would not release the James Bond series on Blu-ray but will release only on DVD. If they released that full box set on Blu-ray I'm sure that would put a big dent in HD DVD. I'm not trying to spread rumors or fud or anything of the like, but I am starting to wonder if HD DVD and Blu-Ray are trying to make hay while the sun shines until everything goes internet download made available by Bill "The Devil" Gates.... They better increase the bandwidth so I don't have to wait 3 days to download a 2 hour movie.... The USA is so far behing in technology. I'm serously thinking of moving to Japan or Iceland or somewhere they have better technology.... |

I bought the Bond films on VHS, and then again on VHS when they were released in widescreen, then on DVD, then again when they were released in the boxsets with bonus features, and then again this last time around when they were remastered. If Bond was released on Blu, I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again. I agree - BIG dent! |

They should have the unrated version on BD only, who the heck wants the PG-13 version? FOX is dropping the ball with this release, but this isn't the first time FOX has dropped the ball when it comes to supporting Blu.

That Bond DVD set has an MSRP of US$239 for 20 films. I would think that the BD version would cost at least US$300. And that's just one title for this Fall. There are many other titles that command more than US$30, include Blade Runner and CE3K. Simply put, the market is not there to support multiple AAA titles where each would sell 100K units. If it had, then the studios would definitely do it. fuad |
