It probably has something to do with money. It usually does.

What's different about it? Because my Australian release copy has the same running time listed on the back cover as the U.S version.

That's because the Australian disc is the same as the US theatrical cut. I know, because I bought it and was pi**ed. The cover art is the same as the US extended cut, but the the film inside is indeed the US theatrical. Dont waste your time/money.

Like this movie, but not enough to buy it on BD. I'd buy the 2nd one though. I thought that one looked great on BD. Although I did like Jane as The Punisher. Anyone know why he didn't come back and dropped out?

Are you sure? Every website I find that shows it says that includes 15 minutes of footage added in.

Even when I check on ebay.au every listing says "extended cut"

I know that there was an early Australian release that was the same as the US version, however the re-release claims to have the extended version. How could every website that is selling it be wrong!

He didn't like the script or the direction they were taking it in. Personally, I thought Tom Jane's Punisher movie was okay, but I hated Punisher: War Zone. War Zone to me was a goofy, violent cartoon, which might have been alright, but it was clashing with the "accidentally killed an undercover guy" storyline which felt out of place. The tone was all over the place in that movie, switching from ridiculous camp to suddenly serious introspective moments at the drop of a hat and IMO doesn't work at all.

I definitely would have preferred giving Jon Hensleigh another chance and working with Tom Jane on a sequel instead. If you watch the commentary for Punisher (theatrical version DVD only), he talks very honestly about where he made mistakes, and how his sequel would be set in New York and be much more like the comic book, now that they had gotten his origin out of the way.

War Zone was probably closer in spirit to what a good Punisher film should follow, but the studio let some foreign director go crazy and over-stylize the film.

The problem with Punisher is that Hollywood sees all the violence of the character and decides to put him into B-level action scripts, trying to wedge him into the standard violent action hero mold seen in movies. That is almost always going to produce mediocre results.

If you want to watch a good Punisher movie, just watch Denzel in Man on Fire.

I'm not buying the Blu-ray until the extended cut is available. I really like The Punisher film with Thomas Jame. It could be better, but there is a lot of good stuff in it and I think it is the best of the three.

More on what motorheadache95 was saying, Thomas Jane wanted the sequel to be darker and much closer in tone with the comics. For some reason it wasn't going there so it didn't work out. Really too bad because I think a sequel would have been awesome.

A foreign director with an oscar nod and martial arts backround...

Thomas Jane wanted the next movie to be taxi driver (which isnt a good representation of the character in my opinion)...TJ sorta lost his mind after the making of the first movie...try and find an interview with him where is isnt drunk or stoned....While I commend his effort for his film, I dont think his vision for the next film was where I wanted to see it..

WarZone isnt perfect...but it follows the look and story of Ennis' MAX run..(I also wasnt a fan of the death of the FBI agent)

If Hensleigh had respected the source material in the FIRST PLACE, he might have had a chance to make the sequel, and wouldn't have to atone for all his ridiculous mistakes.

I'm pretty sure it came out in Canada. This 2 disk set seems to have it included according to the cover. I think I bought it separately but I'd have to double check my collection at home.
