I'm a movie lover. Always have been, always will be. If left on my own, I can watch from morning till night. I'm pretty discerning. If something looks like crap is off-color or sounds terrible I pick up on it.
I don't read any kind of review till after I see a film, and I've read quite a few reviews after watching my blu-rays on this site, and I'm surprised at how low many of the films I've watched get for poor transfer quality. I used to go to the theatre when it was just one huge screen back in the 60s and 70s, and the movies were not always clear and the colors were not always sharp. They looked like movies. I have 300+ blu rays and I don't have a complaint about one of them. Funny Face (review I read tonight) is ripped by both reviewers for having poor video. I watched this last night and my screen I feel is fairly large at 7.5' x 4.5' and I was entranced by the beauty of the image. What am I missing? How do reviewers know that what they're seeing is wrong? The only thing that surprises me is the way a film is released with edits or additions. It would be nice (especially with older movies) to own the version the audiences saw on original release. |
