Default Denon interview Scoop on new products.

Interesting reading for those interested in the high end side of things.

In our particular instance, our goal is to have a true universal audio/video player. All audio formats, including SACD and DVD-Audio, as well as HD DVD and Blu-ray video.
You know, that's the only possible situation I would consider buying a BD/HD DVD combo: if Denon makes BD/SACD/DVDA only available with HD DVD thrown in there too. I really would like to replace my 2930/PS3 combo with just one Denon player. I hope HD DVD goes away before that point though

I have one of their DVD-A/SACD/CD/DVD players. It's quite the champ in my opinion, but it did cost me some significant scratch.

I always liked their product offering. They have a nice spread from low to high-end, and I bought somewhere in the middle.

don't tell me you want an HDDVD combo/BD player because you are planning to go neutral if its the last solution.

Ahhhm, if you re-read my post the answer should be clear. What I really want is a BD/SACD/DVDA player from Denon. If they only make one that is also capable of playing HD DVD, then I might consider it.

I would jump at this player, but it would also have to be region free.

Denon needs to re-thinks it strategy. First they announce a stand alone BD player for $2000, now this little revelation.

Panasonic and Samsung and Sony players are good enough for me.

But not for everyone.

Talmadge - "DVD is what I call a "baked format", meaning it's basically done. There are some copy protection things, but that's later, and they’re not going to affect performance and playback of material. For Blu-ray, on the other hand, Profile 1.1 is just the next step — there's actually a Version 2 some time next year."

Certainly a different take on the profile deal and it sounds like it's actually appealing to Denon.

Their format neutral stance, and I would definitely appreciate a BD-Live/HDDVD combo player from thes likes of Denon. In Silver to match my 4306, please.

Sorry but usually the guy (or girl) interested in a $2k Denon can't find the equivalent product with those other manufacturers.
(ok maybe SonyES but not regular Sony)
This along with Marantz (same parent company) is usually their only choice.

Right - and Sony will never support HD-DVD or DVD-A, so don't count on them providing a universal player.

But even on their high end BDP-S2000ES doesn't support SACD, yet their high end ES DVD player does. (dvp-ns9100es)

I was a bit surprised at that.

In all fairness, all of the HD players (HD-DVD and BR) so far seem to be very basic.
