This announcement came during the fourth of July holiday and I completely missed it. Suffice to say, I'm importing this (subtitles or not) on day one!

Has there been any word if this has English subs or dubs? I recently watched the series for the first time and would love to have it in HD.

The international (English dubbed) version of Part II is included as an extra. Other than that, it doesn't look like this will have English audio or subtitles. Note that the international version (despite having pretty solid voice acting) of Part II made a lot of changes to the script. It was originally created as an English tutorial (it's in English with Japanese subs).

I've purchased this series so many times now that I don't think I can pull the trigger on another expensive import. If it ever gets released in NA, though, I'll definitely pick it up.

Is this the one you are referring to?:

I remember seeing the scene that starts 3:25 for the first time and being so grossed out I had nightmares for a few weeks. It is like that scene in KING OF THORN where all the people fall through the elevator door... yeesh!

For those who don't know what I'm talking about... just wait until the Sentinel shows up. Blech!

EDIT: wow.. just watched the vid after posting the link... talk about some major editing. Let's just say it doesn't end well:

[Show spoiler]

I think Ichiro Itano (the director of Part II) is fond of putting in "cruel" scenes like this. Itano was also responsible for a couple of gory bits in the Macross 1984 movie (a head being stomped on, a decapitated guy during the final battle) that ended up censored on the Blu-ray.

I would buy this if I had the money. I've bought this series at least four times over the years (the laserdisc singles, the LD box, the Japanese DVD box, and finally the ADV R1 DVD release), but it's so natsukashii.

Here's hoping we get a more affordable release in North America.

The AVD release is pretty good with a very serviceable transfer, but a blu-ray release would be awesome.

Who knows, maybe AnimEigo will do a Kickstarter like they did with Bubblegum Crisis.

Iczer-1 and Dangaio BDs are imminent in Japan as well. These will all have HD scans with the exception of the third Dangaio OVA due to the loss of the original film.

The transfers of Megazone 23 on ADV DVDs were really impressive so I can only imagine how awesome a HD release will look.

I imported this set last month, and both parts 1 and 2 look excellent. I would hope ICZER and DANGAIOH will look as good.

The third Dangaio episode will be an upscale because they have lost the original film. The other episodes should look good. And I'm really tempted to import Iczer-One even though I already own the R2 DVD box.
