I read it was something like 1 in 3 Xbox 360's was/is defective.
I cannot fathom the herd mentality required to still proceed with the purchase of this product. I know one bloke who's on his third machine. Stunning. |

The PS3 has a failure rate of around 1%. You get what you pay for. In three years or less Microsoft will begin selling the Xbox4(? even there has never been an xbox 2) And completely abandon development of games for it. It happened with the original xbox. No matter what, rest assured the PS3 will be around for the next ten years with games for even after they produce their next console.

I go sure but have you at all considered a ps3 intead? all went well from there. Stories about 33% failure rate, disc scratching and even smoking peripherals *steering wheel* scared em into not getting a 360. then listing upcoming games, showing them a blu-ray demo cus they have a hdtv. Their 17yr old kid goes.. Dad.. im buying a ps3 lololol |

![]() someone nick mention 360 is bcos you send it for repair, and ms send it back to you. so 720 is 2x of 360, go figure. ![]() maybe the 33% failure is refering to the amount of parts that fail within a unit ? ![]() |

If you want to get technical, 3 in 3 Xbox 360's are defective since Microsoft has admitted that the very design of the system has a known flaw in it. The 1 in 3 you reference in your post is just the systems that actually decide to open their owners eyes to the mistake that they made in purchasing it as their main entertainment console. Now, I will admit that I have a 360 myself, but I'm not too worried as I only use it a couple of times a month (Gears Of War & Guitar Hero II). However, I know several people who are on system #5 or #6 at this point.

Immaturity can still get them. ![]() Though my brother did have 2 xbox 360s kick the bucket on him. I am "borrowing" the third one while my bro is in Japan. So i don't doubt that the 360 is poorly made (which is probably an understatement). However that's pretty rare even for 360s to have bad nics. I mean it would be a widespread problem if it were. |

33% of the Xbox 360's are broken. I wonder why they have sold so many?

The console, released in 2005, gained a bad reputation shortly after launch by the public and gaming enthusiasts for being so unreliable. The “general hardware failure” caused three flashing red lights appear on the front of the console, which was nicknamed the “Red Ring of Death”. Let’s also not forget the first fall 2006 update patch released that was infamous for bricking consoles, rendering them useless. That happened after installation of the patch as the console immediately restarts and shows an error message. In addition, overheating was a major flaw for the 360, sometimes causing the motherboard to even melt and buckle. Microsoft had supposedly reserved enough money, (more than one Billion dollars) for this problem to spend $100 on every existing Xbox 360 to fix them, or enough to replace every third Xbox 360 ever made. Representatives of the three largest Xbox 360 resellers in the world, (EB Games, Gamestop and Best Buy) reported the failure rate of the Xbox 360 to be between 30 and 33%, and that the largest repair shop in Britain, Micromart, stopped repairing Xbox 360’s because they were unable to fully repair the defective systems. Not only that, Microsoft could only address them as “band-aid repairs” to quickly fix consoles for quick turnarounds, resulting in the situation that many of the “repaired” systems failed again after a few weeks. http://www.megatonik.com/2007/10/05/...is-generation/ |
