Criterion Hiroshima mon amour (1959)

According to Indiewire, Rialto has a new 4K release of Resnais' "Hiroshima mon amour" scheduled for October.

Unfortunately, there's no extra information beyond that.

We should hopefully get a Criterion release of it in 2015.

We can only hope. I have the DVD, and it's certainly a good release. But I'd like to see what they could do with a 4K Blu-Ray.

Excellent news! I have really been meaning to see this movie, but I've never gotten around to picking up the DVD.

Here's to hoping it plays near me.

It's definitely an adventure, that's for sure.

Make sure you get some sleep the night before.

Audio commentary by film historian Peter Cowie
Interviews with director Alain Resnais from 1961 and 1980
Interviews with actor Emmanuelle Riva from 1959 and 2003
New interview with film scholar François Thomas, author of L’atelier d’Alain Resnais
New interview with music scholar Tim Page about the film’s score
Revoir Hiroshima . . . , a 2013 program about the film’s restoration
New English subtitle translation
PLUS: An essay by critic Kent Jones and excerpts from a 1959 Cahiers du cinéma roundtable discussion about the film
Thanks to relentless guys from criterionforum.org for the scoop

A critic and author Tim Page has posted an image of himself being interviewed for the upcoming blu-ray release of Hiroshima mon Amour on his facebook page. It will be a 'deluxe reissue' according to him, and it will be released in the summer!

I wrote an essay on Hiroshima mon amour, not so long ago. A beautiful and complex masterpiece.

Saw this opening day when it was rereleased in the fall - got to experience first-hand the awkward shuffling out of a theater after a complex, open-to-interpretation french new wave ending. Will definitely pick up.

Happy day indeed. The last of my ABSOLUTELY, MUST HAVE films to be restored and released on blu-ray. I'll never forget the power and influence my first viewing of this film had on me, and I have a feeling this new restoration will be just as memorable.

I usually wait for a sale to buy Criterion films but this will be a day one purchase. Absolutely adore this film. A masterpiece by Alain Resnais. Glad to hear it is getting the "deluxe" treatment, much deserved.

I hope it comes bundled with the screenplay like the Picnic at Hanging Rock(Novel) release. It's such a wonderfully unconventional and beautifully written screenplay.

I often thumb through my copy.
