For anybody who prefers to look at information from a more accurate site, here's the dddhouse link:
http://www.dddhouse.com/v3/product_d...roductID=13130 ...which has only ONE aspect ratio listed, and the extras should include deleted scenes! |

So any word on the quality on Magnificent Butcher or Spooky Encounters?
Picture? Sound? Alot of new FX sounds? I was curious if anyone knows about the subtitles.. are they decent? I had the DVDs put out by Hong Kong Legends & was wondering if they use the same subs. Any info please!! ![]() |

As far as new sound fx, I didn't notice anything too bad, but admittedly I've only seen these films once or twice over the years, so my memory of their soundtracks is a little fuzzy. That said, sound quality was pretty good to these ears. Subtitles are OK, a few tiny grammar oddities here and there, but again nothing too bad. Not sure if they are the same HKL subs or not, I only had the old Fox DVDs from the States. Picture quality? Well, I'll likely get flamed for this, but the prints were clean, the image was sharp and when I A/B'd them against the old DVDs, the blu-rays were the clear winners. You can claim upscale till you are blue in the face. But this is probably the best quality we are ever gonna see, so you can take it or leave it. I choose to take it. Thanxs for the info!!
![]() Upscales or not these are gonna be the best versions out there so I can live with it... It just really bothers me when they over do it with the sound effects!! Also do they have subtitles when the Master Wong Fei Hung character holds up the paper after the calligraphy fight? I think the writing should say: A Good Man Has No Enemies Or something like that.. ![]() Sammo is my fave!!! Got to get Prodigal Son on Blu also!! ![]() Quote:

I have recently purchased The Magnificent Butcher, Prodigal Son and Spooky Encounters on blu. The KR`s are the best versions of these movies that I have seen.
There were no added sounds/sound effects when listening in stereo. Can`t say if there are concerning surround-sound; I do not have it set up. Only on Prodigal Son were the subtitles the same as those on the old Fox dvd. The opening text/credits for Spooky Encounters did not contain the '(aka) Spooky Encounters' wording. The credits in Magnificent Butcher are in red instead of the ones in white found on the Fox dvd. There are no deleted scenes on MB. No extras; no trailer. Though, PS and SE do contain a trailer. |

I had a chance to watch the Spooky Encounters bluray
and the audio is such a letdown totally new sound effects and soundtrack Stay far away from this release!!! Magnificent Butcher is much better (mostly original sound) but still has some new sound effects here and there... wish they would just give us the original mono tracks such a bummer.. ![]() Have not checked out Prodigal Son yet... hope it's not too bad. So Magnificent Butcher and Prodigal Son are upscales?
I found that there are some great titles that aren't, thanks to some Google Images searches done last weekend. I'm very happy I found great titles that I didn't hear about before that aren't upscales. Mostly thanks to bbs.siluhd.com |

I stay far away from Chinese blu-rays these days. I've been burned too many times with classic films that look marginally better than the DVD (if at all). |

I found very interesting stuffs on this chinese forum I named before.
I know there is a list on this board of "true HD master" released by K&R (https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=176086) so I will try to update it here. I own some of those BDs (I will say it when I do so that it will be 100% sure), and for the rest of them I will trust great forumers from here who reviewed them already and also the screenshots of the HK BDs I found on the chinese forum I discovered. Here we go: Real HD Transfer of catalog HK title from FortuneStar/Kam & Ronson and others: Accidental Spy (owned) The Adventurers (owned) Armageddon Black Mask II (owned) Brotherhood A Chinese Odyssey (owned) City on Fire (owned) The Conman Conmen in Vegas Final Justice (owned) Forbidden City Cop Hitman (owned) Island of Greed (owned) Jiang Hu: The Triad Zone (owned) Legend of Speed Long arm of The Law 1 (owned) My Father is a Hero (owned) Once Upon a Time in China and America (owned) One Nite in Mongkok (owned) Running on Karma (owned) Running Out of Time & Running Out of Time 2 (owned) Sex and Zen & Sex and Zen 2 (owned) Sparrow (owned) Throw Down (owned) A True Mob Story When Fortune Smiles Yes Madam (owned) DNR to death: A Hearty Response The Legend of Wisely (owned) Tiger on Beat (owned) SD Quality Transfer of catalog HK title from FortuneStar/Kam & Ronson and others: Armour of God II An Autumn's Tale Bullet in the Head Chinese Ghost Story 1, 2, and 3 Crime Story Eastern Condor In The Line Of Duty 4 The Killer Long arm of the Law 2 Mad Mission Boxset Once Upon a Time in China 1, 2, and 3 Peking Opera Blues Police Story 1, 2, and 3 Prison on Fire Royal Tramp 1 and 2 Royal Warriors Sex and the Emperor Sixty Million Dollar Man Swordman Tiger Cage 2 Wheels on Meals Zu: Warriors From The Magic Mountain + all the Michael Hui movies, and most of the Jackie Chan movies that don't appear in the "Real HD" list above. Please, I don't want to launch a new debate about upconverts, true HD and all. I also don't imply that the SD quality BDs aren't better than any of the SD DVDs of the same movies. I just tried my best to help customers and forumers over here by updating a very practical list for those who want to buy some of those HK BDs but still hesitate. The Prodigal Son is the best version of this movie that I have seen. I own like 5 copies of it. The K&R blu uses the same subtitles as the Fox dvd version; which was my only let-down. I believe that the original Universe/Megastar dvd release had the best subs. Again, I did not hear any added sound effects. But, I am only listening in stereo. |
