Default Cincyphan's Home Theater

I'm starting to get my home theater to where I want it, but I'm sure there are still many things I can do to make improvements. What you see in the pics are exactly what I have. A couple of things I'm thinking about are getting a power conditioner as I'm not currently using one. I'm also thinking about getting some new speaker cables. Right now I'm using some old, standard Monster Cable I picked up about ten years ago ran with no connectors (bare wire). If anyone has input of any type, it would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also considering picking up a CD player. Right now I'm using my Bluray player. I was talking to a rep at my local store, and he said based on the processor I have, I'd have to get something pretty ridiculous. They have a floor model Primare CD21 for like $1100. I just don't know if it's really worth it or not. Does anyone have experience with this?

First off.... it all looks great!

I've gone through various components and CD players etc.... and I would suspect that your $1,100 would best be spent elsewhere rather than a CD player....

Same goes with speaker cables.... if they are a decent gauge, they should be fine (bare ends and all)

Given your user-name, and photos, I must HIGHLY recommend the Oysterhead self-titled album..... what a great studio-album to really give the speakers a work-out!

I've gotta look at the pictures to come up with an ACTUAL recommendation of what to upgrade/do next...... but at first glance, it all looks fine

EDIT:

You're some-what limited because it's a large DLP..... if you had a flat-panel you could wall-mount it, and then give your speakers some room to breath..... You may want to consider an Oppo, or a turntable.... (that would be a great idea!) other than that.... I just don't know! It all looks great....

I have to say you Have a Beautiful System .

I Love Everything that I See.Nice Components.And Simply Amazing B&W Speakers
And the Definitive Technology Bipolar Surround Speakers you are using should give you incredible Performance with Both Movies and Music.

And I would agree with the others and look at a lower priced CD/SACD Player. And if(after time)you want more performance an isolation(or as was recommended to me my Forum member Lestat)And Extrenal DAC Component could go miles in increasing its performance if needed.

Oppo is highly rated for its CD/SACD Capabilities.A very Knowledgeable member(John)says it was rated as one of the Biggest Bargains in Audio in the Spring 2010 issue of Sound and Vision.

And Marantz and Denon also make very good players. All while Pioneer Elite has a couple of New Models that have recently started to make their way to some dealers.

But I think for $500 or so,you can get a CD Player with incredible performance(Rotel and others come to mind).
And if you need better performance from the CD Player the above mentioned Upgrades will make an Incredible differnce.

Well with regards to Universal transports vs standalone players i would say there is a difference in sound quality but it would be up to you to audition them and decide if it is worth the difference in price. At that price point i would like to throw in the Marantz SA8003 into consideration. But bottomline would be its best to hear it before you do believe its worth a grand on investment.

Oh and btw you simply have beautiful gear. If you were into 2 channel wish you could find a solution to widen your front soundstage and let the speakers breathe.

Looks good. I love the B&W's as well. The advice Beta Man gave about the TV and then the ability to widen teh front soundstage was the only thing I saw......I also say with the amount of money you intend to spend on a CD, perhaps it could be better spent elsewhere. Unfortunately, I have no advice on a power conditioner, as I do not have one either.

Even my dealer told me that I did not have to go crazy with getting speaker wires. He said $50-100 is the max he would pay for his front channel speaker cables. I told him about my Monoprice cables with DIY techflex and he said they were good enough.

Until you start getting into the very high-end gear and speakers, your ROI is nearly non-existent. I can sort of see that, however, I have heard differences between the two RCA cables I have tried out between my receiver and amp. I may be getting new speaker wires for my front three speakers, but at $450 for three cables, that may be a 2010 purchase (there are a lot of good blu-ray's coming out between now and the end of the year! ).

Thanks for the input, all. I'm definitely going to look into getting some new cables. I'll let you know how it works out.

I didn't know that there were quite a few members from Cincinnati. Pretty neat.

I crave Adriatico's, The Precinct, and a good ol' fashioned "Bum-Encounter" I haven't been hit-up for loose change with a sketchy story about needing to buy a new belt for a car to get back to Dayton in YEARS

EDIT:

The Bearcats are getting NO LOVE...... they'll move up from #5 by the end of the year..... but even if they go undefeated, some one-loss teams will jump them if Florida/Texas/Iowa don't go undefeated anyways
