Woah, I can't believe Disney put this in the theaters, I was waiting for the Blu-Ray to release, I don't know if I should see it or skip it in theaters.

Wouldn't doubt it. Hearing how cheaply made Planes was, and the main reason for its existence most likely because of merchandising, I am sure Disney will have Trains and Boats in the pipeline eventually. :\

I also thought this was going to be straight-to-DVD... it definitely gave off that impression in all the trailers I saw for it, but I guess Disney had other plans. It looks terrible, and whenever you have Dane Cook as the lead voice actor, you know something is terribly wrong.

+1 I am quite surprised at Disney going with the often dirty mouthed stand up comedian Dane Cook in such a family friendly film.

Also, just the trailer itself, I maybe smiled once but the rest of it and the jokes just left me flat and it could've been done by Blue Sky studios and I wouldn't have known any different. Marketing is the wrong reason to make a film...Lone Ranger are you listening too?

It's not going to have the heart that most previous Pixar films have, not sure if they're switching writers, or emphasis on scripting techniques or if it's coming from a gavel wielding hand from above. But whatever it is, I hope it doesn't continue

It's not a Pixar movie, it's a DisneyToon film, so naturally it won't be as good, but I'm sure it will hold its own. It has made 22.5 M in 3 days, so it'll be fine. And yes, it will continue, as this is the first of a trilogy of Planes movies, next being 'Planes: Fire And Rescue' coming next year.

That was the initial plan, but remember, once upon a time, Toy Story 2 was meant to go straight-to-video as well. I can understand making this decision, and it will most likely make money for them and at the same time establish and expand the brand-name more than if it had gone STV. I think I can skip this in the same way I'm skipping the Tinkerbell films. It just isn't meant for me.

I think $50 million is too big an investment for just a DTV film with a fairly well-known cast. Still, my nephews would die to see it and I'm sure I will buy it so I can see their faces light up.

Well it took them long enough! (Since they annoucned this with the first trailer in 2011, when it was straight-to-video)

Actually, both "Boats" and "Trains" have been confirmed to be in the early-planning stages, with them likely to go into production if "Planes" is a success.

I think Pixar might get an adult audience if they make their first R-rated film with a film called 'Cabs'

Look at it this way: It's DisneyToon Studios doing Planes 2, Boats, and Trains. You wouldn't want them working on The Incredibles 2 anyway.

Agreed! I dozed off a couple of times watching this with my daughter yesterday. I did not let any form of laughter and hardly a smile. The kiddo thought it was just ok. This may be the first disney movie that I skip on Blu.
