I always watch horror films all month--all the bds and dvds I have gotten since last October. It's kind of strange, but it's kind of fun.
first up today was "Night of the Demon" from 1957. I really like classic horror the most, and have never seen this cult classic. I have plans to watch some of the following films during my October film festival 2011-- The Innocents The Bad Seed Hellraiser Deep Red Friday the 13th (original) The 10th Victim The Plague of the Zombies Switchblade Romance House Inferno City of the Living Dead Videodrome The House on Haunted Hill Witchfinder General The Cat O'Nine Tails Near Dark Last edited by Arkadin; 10-01-2011 at 03:46 PM. |

![]() (Caveat on Witchfinder, though: There's nothing so much "scary" about it as the late-60's/early-70's British attempt to move horror away from Dracula and more toward censor-shock. The Bush era gave us "Saw", but the mod 70's gave the British their "Inquisition-porn" preoccupation with perverted witch-hunters, as their protest against a hypocritical and repressive Establishment authority. Amer. Int'l noticed there was nothing scary about it either, and tried to sell it as a Vincent Price Poe movie--He's good, but there's ain't no raven.) Last edited by EricJ; 10-01-2011 at 05:47 PM. |

MfOS is funnier--mildly--if you're already familiar with the Fry & Laurie-like comedy team of Mel Smith & Griffin Rhys-Jones, aka Alas Smith & Jones. And even then, they were never as funny in the movies as they were in BBC sketches...Shaun of the Dead it ain't. Alien from LA was already done as a MST3K episode, and even then they considered it just too weird, goofy-Australian, and 80's-Golan/Globus. Most of the jokes being about Kathy Ireland's squeaky "comic" voice as she wanders around old punk-chic sets left over from a failed 80's-GG version of "Journey to the Center of the Earth". ...Yeah, THIS is why we always warn against blind buys. In case you ever wondered.) ![]() |

![]() I think I actually saw "MfoS" before, but can't really remember it. I seem to remember a few funny moments. But in the end, I figure that 80s camp would satisfy me. We'll see... ![]() ![]() |
