Default Onkyo HTS 5300 vs Samsung HW-C450 Soundbar

Man, I feel like I've been doing nothing but asking for advice lately. Luckily you guys seem a bit more experienced in this stuff than I am. So here I am asking for a bit more advice. We're in the final stages of picking out a new flatscreen for the living room, which means we'll be looking to upgrade the sound system and dvd player along with the 13.5 year old set. The room is fairly open, so my wife is a little concerned about shelling out for a sound system that might get lost because of it. She is actually thinking soundbar, since we have one hooked up to the 47" Vizio, but I'm not so sure. On one hand I would have to hire someone to set up things, on the other I wouldn't have to and it would have less wires to conceal. Does anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

Smile samsung!!

I have just bought the samsung soundbar buddy and i think its great ! It looks great very easy to setup and sounds pretty impressive to be fair. I live in the uk and picked it up for 270 pound and for that price i'm happy with the purchase.

If you want real surround sound, get the Onkyo. If you don't, get the Samsung. Not possible to get real surround sound from a soundbar. Good luck!

I guess my question is how well will the surround sound be in such a open space? That is my growing concern on the surround sound, not to mention needing to wire up the house or should I say paying someone to wire up my house.

Open space is ok, as long as the speakers aren't too far away.
Wire up the house? For an HTIB system?
I wouldn't go to that trouble and expense for an HTIB system.
I didn't do all that, with what I've got...........

Well, I finally heard those magic words from my wife, "If we're going over a $200 we should consider the Onkyo" While the sound bar would probable be less mess I think it might be time to consider getting a new stereo system. Someone suggested those concealers, but I might just run the speaker wire under the house. I really haven't decided yet though. Spending this kind of money always makes me twitchy, no matter how many times I hear "Most bang for your buck"

How do the speakers sound? I've heard they can sound kind of tinny? I've had some good suggestions on buying things separately but I worry about getting more system than I need in this room.

Ill tell you this, I was at RC Willey electronics section here in Las Vegas, their electronic section is huge. They have a surround sound room with many setups and across on the other side they have the televisions section. I was looking at TV's about 40 feet away and then I heard this loud rumbling and sound effects coming from across the floor, It was so loud I had to walk over to the surround sound section room to see what kind of system was producing so much noise. I found out that is was the Onkyo home theatre in a box setup. It was the Onkyo s7300. You can get it on Newegg for $580.00 they were playing the movie Avatar and the sound was incredible, that is more then enough sound to power that room of yours. It was so loud I had to turn it down and the volume was only half way up. I also had to decide whether I wanted to build my own. That was to much headache for me and I didnt need that much sound. Thats why I just ordered my Onkyo system with everything all in one box, easy simple less headaches. You wont believe the crystal clear clarity and clean bass it produces. If you have more money to spend then I would also suggest the Onkyo s9300 because it is THX certified and thats the one I am gonna buy, its 750.00 on Newegg Also the s7300 version comes with an Ipod dock to play all your music, on the 9300 you have to purchase it seperately for 100.00 on ebay. Hope this helps. After looking at your room several times this would be the perfect system for you.

I just noticed you were on a budget so I suggest the Onkyo s3300 more then enough to power that room. Its only 279.00 on Newegg.

Thanks, we're going to see if the salesman can come up with a nice package deal. Otherwise I might just get the HTS5300 at a discounted price. Considering that I can get that for around $300, I guess I can live with that until I can replace the speakers I'll post some pics once we've made a decision and set everything up.

We ended up getting the HT-S5300 art. Paid $422.00, which met them in the middle. I'm pretty excited and can't wait to hook it up. I think we're going to Ikea tomorrow to see about some type of shelving for the receiver, cable box and the 360. Also need to find a nice wall mount for the flatscreen while I'm at it.

I just heard that onkyo hts5300, s7300, s9300 are all the same total output
power of 1200watts. Is there a big difference in quality of sounds that the 3
produce in playing music and watching BD's are they noticeable.
I'm in the final step of purchasing hts5300 at amazon maybe this might
change my mind.
Hope to hear from you guys.thanks.

I can't really be of any help MCJ. I've got some family stuff going on. So I haven't had a chance to go looking for the shelves or wall mount for my new set up. You might seek out callas and lloyd_nasty. They were both pretty helpful and you can find them on my receiver thread. Just pm them with your particular question and they should be able to help more than me. I went with this one because I didn't want to invest something just for the living room. I'll go nuts when it is time to set up the family room though

I got my mother a Samsung soundbar last Christmas. A different older model. I'm not sure the model number but I paid $250 for it last Christmas. She has enjoyed it, but then she's never used anything other than tv speakers. I, on the other hand thought it sounded barely better the tv speakers... and even that was probably only due to the deeper tones of the small sub woofer. I'd definitely go with the Onkyo HTiB if choosing between the two.
