I really liked the original thread, so here's to continuing that thread which was becoming a good cross-referenced database comparing editions.
I had pages 1 and 4 of the thread in my cache, and saved them to my computer. Here's the first page's posts. Quote:

I kept Godzilla, since Sony failed to include the teaser on the BD and the dvd itself wasn't worth even a buck in resale. I could always trade it to BB, but I've got plenty of others for trade and every time I do a trade in, half of the titles I trade for drop to the same price without a trade within a couple months, making me feel like I wasted the dvd.
Otherwise, that's about it. I generally get rid of the dvd, as soon as the BD is announced, regardless of whether the BD includes all the extras. Though, if I could stomach standard def, I'd probably still have the extended cut of A Knight's Tale too, which I preferred to the theatrical cut, but not enough to favor over the full BD experience. |

GE Cafe: Thanks for all of your time and effort that you've invested so far by recreating this thread, and it's very much appreciated, but do you think it's really necessary? Time is valuable! It would much easier and convenient to star a brand new thread on the topic, rather than trying to retrieve and upload previously saved data from your PC.

I have the original DVD release of Seven, its not double layered so you have to flip the DVD half way thru. It was the first DVD i bought in 1997 and thought it was the wave of the future, boy i was right. So i cant get rid of it just due to it was the beginning of my now way over the top collection.

I plan on keeping certain ones that have extras the BD's don't have, as well as those I know won't be getting a release on BD anytime soon. I'm definetly keeping my Star Wars 4-6 DVD's that came in a limited eidition Best Buy tin. Even though the original cuts of the films were non-anamorphic 2.35:1 and had Mono audio it's better than not having them on Blu Ray.

I remember saying quite a few, and it was mostly ones with better packaging
Total Recall the Red Moon Tin release Mysterious Island because it has supplements not found on Twilight Times *Only 3000 copies* BluRay Wizard of Oz Anniversary Set Gone with the Wind Anniversary Set Reservoir Dogs Gas Tank tin Abbott & Costello box set Gojira / Godzilla - from the classic media set King Kong - I have that set with Son of Kong and Mighty Joe Young Exorcist and Superman because I have those giant black box sets Cassablanca - the UCE because it has other goodies not on the 70th Anniversary set... the 2 Star Wars trilogies Evil Dead 2 Tin Spiderman 1 & 2 gift sets Towering Inferno because it has collectibles I really hope BluRay releases become as stellar as DVD releases in terms of the packaging. Id like to some of the great collectibles that come with DVD sets on Blu. Imagine the Blind Dead in HD in that coffin set. Towering Inferno should have had the same things in it like the DVD. I make my own combo packs so pretty much all the movies that don't have a combo pack. I have a 4 disc combo of Terminator 2! My family has four DVD players and one Blu-ray player so being able to watch a DVD is pretty much a requirement in my home. Especially because I hog the Blu-ray since I am the only one that cares about quality.
![]() Some that I'm personally keeping: Batman Begins with lenticular slipbox Cast Away with steelbook The Departed with steelbook Underworld Uncut Extended Edition, awesome release Hellboy (3 disc Director's Cut) X-Men: The Last Stand with Collector's Slipbox Superman Returns with two different slipcovers and a lenticular card Spider-man 3 with a lenticular slipcover and slipbox (several bonus discs). Movie's nothing to write home about, but ... this was a strange release that has some great special features, a great trailer, a very good director but somehow a terrible screenplay, proving that Sam Raimi should just shoot and not write. For a mess that it was, Raimi did an admirable job. I mean the creation of sandman scene was awesome. I probably have more but those are the ones I can remember. I'll probably remember DVD more for its bonus discs, director's cuts or extended editions, and special features. We can say all we want to about how Blu-ray is awesome, and ... it is ... truly awesome (no sarcasm), but we can't deny that DVD had some great releases. However, I'll stick with Blu-rays to watch the movies. Last edited by TheBluRayPrince; 06-09-2012 at 04:10 PM. |

Almost none. I have a very few that I've made into combo packs, like Once and soon As Good As It Gets, for features I think I must have. But it's very rare and I'm much more likely to let the dvd and just be happy with the bd for reasons of space and that I really don't watch a lot of special features more than one time.
I'd pay $40 per dvd to have, if that's what it took, to get nice looking HD transfers of all the last of my dvds. I only WANT to keep that which I have no choice but to keep. |

I've recently begun getting rid of DVDs that I have Blu-Ray copies of (hard not to when Upgrade and Save happens at Best Buy), but I don't have plans to rebuy my entire collection or sell off all of my DVDs entirely.
With that being said, the only DVD I have any particular attachment to is my FYE Exclusive Steelbook of Cloverfield. I love that thing, and I certainly wouldn't get rid of it, despite owning the film on Blu-Ray. |
