Criterion The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)

Many Criterion/Was Anderson fans have been wanting a release for The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou on Blu-ray for a while. It's the only Wes Anderson title yet to be released on Blu-ray, and anything before The Fantastic Mr. Fox has been released on Blu-ray by Criterion except for this (not including the recent Criterion release of Fantastic Mr. Fox).

The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

The Criterion Collection will finally be releasing this on Blu-ray on May 20th, 2014!

Here is the link to it on Amazon. Expect an official announcement from Criterion in the next few hours (as it's almost the time of the month when they announce new releases).

Everyone has been waiting for it! Almost every monthly release announcement posted here gets a comment asking for it, as do the announcements on the Criterion Collection's website.

But whey would they try to be mysterious about something that everyone knows will get a release? I mean, it's been announced that it got a new restoration, and they even have that poster you posted.

And why the fish? I haven't seen Journey to Italy, so I wouldn't know how that last part ties in to it.

Now I'm only 50% sure.

I don't think it does. It's possible, and Mulvaney did say it would get a summer release (even though titles have so far been announced up until August).

Besides, this can work as the official page for when it is released.

It's likely a boxset with a few Rossellini/Bergman films included. Stromboli for instance could be why they used a tuna, as they fish for tuna in that movie.

Has Criterion done a box set before? (Serious question). Not sure I've ever seen one. Would be cool if they did.

A whole bunch of them. http://www.criterion.com/lists/104553-box-sets

I don't even think that list is complete.

Every so often they do one. I think once a year around November is when they get released.

These drawings are sometimes so easy to guess other times...its so muddy it might as well not be a clue at all. Then other times we get tricked all together. Frances Ha anyone?

I don't think they would hint at a serious/classic release with a "wacky Tuna" cartoon. It could make sense, but from what I gather from TLA, they are on a hunt for a shark that killed Steve Zissou's partner. I wouldn't use "wacky" to hint at a serious release.

I don't know. I guess we'll see.

Why not? This was the hint used for Badlands, and for the most part, that is a "serious" film as well.

True.

I noticed that the file name is wacky lambs. So the Tuna picture could be something to do with Naples and Italy, confusion, and Tuna (or something that sounds like it). TLA deals with a search, and Naples and fish. Journey to Italy has Naples, and confusion.
