Paramount The First Wives Club (1996) (Paramount Presents #32)

https://www.amazon.com/First-Wives-C...es-tv&sr=1-228

Quote:
Synopsis:

Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton are in top form in this beloved good-time battle-of-the-sexes. Sparked by snappy one-liners, great physical gags, and a healthy sense of satire, it’s the story of three Manhattanites with more than a longtime friendship in common—each has been dumped by their husbands for a newer, curvier model. Determined to turn their pain into gain, justice isn’t about getting mad, it’s about getting everything. Paramount Presents brings this beloved comedy to Blu-ray at long-last, beautifully remastered from a new film transfer.

Special Features:

Filmmaker Focus Featurette with Screenwriter Robert Harling and Theatrical Trailer

So after a 4K (The Man Who Shot Liberty valance) was inserted into the line, we are back to blu-rays. Eitherway, there will be LOTS of people happy to see this one.

I see that as somewhat as a good thing. I was concerned that with the shift to 4K releases that may have limited what they would release, as not every Presents film will really necessitate a 4K release, so I'm glad they're still doing sme BD only ones too.

True, but I think two 'lines' would have been better, though I can see the reason why they didn't as 4K PP titles will probably be few and far between. I'm just happy Paramount is cranking catalog stuff out.

They are all from 4K transfers, so they should all be 4K releases. There’s no excuse, really.

I guess the PLUS to it at least being in the P. Presents line is that it won't be one of those crappy standard smeary odd catalog transfers Paramount have been churning out.

Holy crap, I never would have thought this would get the ‘Paramount Presents’ treatment — I wholeheartedly assumed it’d be one of their budget-friendly standard $12.99 Blus, so this is incredibly exciting news.

That said… this should really be 4K. I can’t imagine The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is going to shift more units than this, so I’d love to know the rationale regarding which titles get the standard BD treatment versus 4K UHD. The major costs and time/labor expenditures are with actually creating new 4K/HDR masters, with the actual cost of a 4K disc vs a standard 1080p SDR Blu-ray being rather minimal these days, especially for a major studio like Paramount, so it’s pretty puzzling. Like, you already spent all the money on the 4K master… why dumble the ball at the last step and crap it out on standard BD?

Woo-hoo!

Happy to make this my first purchase for this line. One of my all-time stalwarts from childhood remastered, and as for bonus features, I'm shocked they have anything at all, haha, since the DVD only had a trailer and no real material has ever materialized outside of YouTube and the like (and even there, I'm not certain there's much).

I wonder if the trio were able to get together to do a convo? Probably not if it's not mentioned in the announcement.

Still! This is just fabulous, fabulous news! So thankful my comfort food cinema (the cheesecakes, if you will) are making their way to Blu-ray, slowly but surely...

Really really happy, but I have to say, what's with yet another re-imagination of the poster art? It bears no resemblance to any vintage art, that evening skyline backdrop is so foreign to the movie.
Of course it's a must buy, but can they get someone who doesn't use Microsoft Paint?

Oh my word. Like several other posters, I'm honestly elated this is actually gonna get a Presents treatment. "Clueless" next.

Makes you wonder why Paramount picks certain titles. Did Soapdish deserve the strange smeary odd transfer?

She is a supporting actress here and she was not much known before her breakthrough role in Sex and the city in 1998, this movie was released in 1996.
