You should be able to get into the router and open the ports up. What model router is it?

This is the one I'm using, it's great. Dual band so you can have a pure N network and segregate G devices to their own. It's kind of pricey though.

WNDR3700

It can check for and update right through the web interface. Simple content filtering, traffic meter, E-mail alerting.

If you are not ready for the investment, I'd go with like a mid level router. After using this one, I'd never try a low end one again.

Ah, I hate SMC routers. Working for Comcast has given me nightmares about those..and Netgear.

I've hated Negear since they did away with the metal routers back in the day. I did a lot of research though before I got the WNDR3700 and I'm quite impressed with it. I would still avoid them on the low end though.

I've been mostly disappointed with Linksys. They have gotten worse since Cisco bought them.

At that pricepoint, probably the Linksys. We have a few of those at work, they are OK.

I have no experience with thier routers. I read 3 or 4 reviews from trusted sources and the Asus has gotten favorable reviews. Plus it's purdy.

You could look at a D-Link DIR 825. That is the step up model of the DIR 655. The 655 won many awards and the 825 is just an improvment on that design. I run a 655 and am satisfied with it completely. If I were to buy a new one I would look at this DIR 825 or DGL 4500. The DGL 4500 is more like the DIR 855 but a better value now, I think. I did notice NewEgg and Amazon both have it for about $172.54 and a couple at 169.99 or 170.00 without looking to hard. Not cheap but a real stable and reliable platform. The DGL is now substantially cheaper than what it was when it first came out. In addition, the 4500 can be had for the about the same and even less as the 855 in many instances. Good luck.
