Default Wireless N vs Wireless G

I was curious, probably know the answer to this but, right now our router supports wireless B & G. I think every system (computers, Wii/PS3/PSP, etc) supports at lest B. If I was to get a 360 S, which supports wireless N, would(n't) that slow the (ping) speeds the other systems get . . .?

What router do you have? Many routers that support G and N will default to the lowest one. For example if you have all N devices and then add a G device. Your speed will drop to the G speed for ALL devices.

You need a dual band router with multiple cell engines.

BTW, ping speeds could deteriorate if you have a noisy network, too. And wireless N will not slow down a network, traffic will.

Our 2 wire doesn't support N (I don't think). Just curious what would happen if we got a device (like a 360 S) that supports N.

most devices today should default to G. In your case, the XBox 360 will still work but under the Wireless-G parameters.

My simple answer to this:

If you have an old router that only transmits B and G, get a router that transmits N. Nothing — absolutely nothing — will be worse off. That is a promise. Everything will still work, and your range will be better. Even if you're in G mode, you will still have better coverage and performance because new routers are just better.
