United Kingdom Multiregion 3D bluray players

Hi

Could anyone recommend which are the best of these players. I'm on a bit of a budget so can't afford the higher spec ones:

Was thinking of taking the plunge on one of these myself. Anyone know if they are decent?

If it was me I'd opt for the Panasonic DMP-BDT230. The reviews I have seen online for this always mention great sound reproduction and natural colours.

I've looked at several of these machines myself, in order to replace my current multi-region player. However I still can't get over the fact that most of these machines cost more than double the cost of buying the un-modded versions. For example, the Panasonic BDT230 is listed at £219.00 (down from £279.00 no less), yet the un-modded version can be picked up on Amazon for less than £100.00.

You could always buy an un-modded player and buy the multi-region firmware off ebay. Search "Panasonic Player Region CD" should point you in the right direction.

Is there a chance you could brick your blu ray player?

What's the catch?

Not too sure what you meant?

If you go for a firmware mod you can't update the player like you usually would. It has to be done via the company that you get the firmware mod from and this usually involves a charge each time you do so.

This is something I am currently looking at as there are a few region locked titles I would like to own.

Depending on who supplies the update, there's always a chance. I doubt it would be fully bricked, just locked. Usually a player knows if the wrong firmware (model-wise) is going to be installed and rejects it. So it depends on the supplier. I've heard of people who have locked their players to the wrong region by downloading the f/w from the wrong site (but that f/w would have to be a newer version and for the correct machine).

It seems irrelevant to me now as the models that firmware upgrades, I can't get hold of for cheap, but would have given it a try.

Anyone ordered from 220 electronics before?

So i put in an order for one of these on saturday, went for the LG BP630 as i have an LG television so can i just use the one remote.

I know that some people on here were saying that you can buy the machine cheaper and then mod it yourself but i can't be bothered with that to be honest i'd much rather have it all done for me. I phoned the guy just before i put the order in and had a wee chat with him about it and he was really helpful and friendly and says if i have any problems or need any future firmware updates that he'll send me the stuff out to do it along with the instructions or just phone him and he'll talk me through it.

Anyway, i now await it's arrival along with a bunch of criterions i ordered.

That's why I went with mrdvd. They were really helpful and I like the security of knowing that if something goes wrong I can return it.

Enjoy your Criterions.
