The good news is the video quality is quite good and not a shabby upscale like the UK release.

The bad news is the audio is only Dolby Digital 2.0, there are no extras and it looks like it's region B+C locked.

The disc is Region B locked, meaning it will only play on Region B or Region Free players.

On the disc it says region C as well, not that anyone ever uses that region.

It's too bad that it isn't region A because the picture quality is superb, and will almost certainly be better than the Universal if/when it's released. Just another reason to invest in a region free player. Way too many great movies that are region locked, and the number will only increase with each month that passes and new Criterion (reg. A) and Eureka (reg. B) releases come out.

I wouldn't rush to import this one even if someone has a region free player. The Italian dub is in DTS-HD MA 5.1, but the native English track is DD 2.0. There are also no English or Spanish subtitles for us North Americans. If I remember correctly the DVD is DD 2.0 as well.

Do you have the blu ray? I think the English track is okay. It might be below average for a blu ray, but I think the picture quality is above average as well, so overall it's WELL worth a purchase if you're a fan of the movie. In the reviews I've read about the blu ray, I haven't seen any major complaints about the English track. Personally, it bothers me more that there are zero extras than the below average but acceptable English track. But the bottom line is that the picture quality is great and it doesn't have forced subtitles:

Personally, I don't need anything else in an import. If you do, you're welcome to wait for another release.

Thanks for the link and the thread! Have been waiting for this for so long. I've just purchased and don't care if it is a 2.0 soundtrack.

Do I need a new sig now?

I enjoyed it and thought the transfer was fairly decent. But will buy a US release or UK release if it is an upgrade.

just got mine yesterday. I'm quite fine with the picture quality. There's quite a bit of dirt and scratches to be found but I don't mind that vintage look. It's more important to me that I did not spot any compression problems. It does suck that there's absolutely no extras but for region B folks like me without a region free player it's still a good option.

also I noticed that the first 3 and a half minutes of the movie have a different framing than the rest of the movie. It's probably much easier to notice when you enable the 'just scan' function of your TV.

This edition was replaced by a subsequent one, a separate entry in the database was probably more correct?

That's absolutely awful.
